Almost every state is sucking wind right now. Don't despair, as I'm sure they will get their own bailouts since everyone and their brother seems to get them these days. Mayors, county commissioners, and governors will line the halls of congress this year until they get it.

The more pain the CA legislators inflict on the people, it will be remembered come re-election.

I suspect that the people are not going to put up with the bringing home the bacon attitude much more.

The bacon has mold on it.

It is one thing when the politicians actions impact the other guy, quite another when you become impacted because they refuse to do their jobs.

I voted all Republicans in the last election for CA house and senate. Of course they (dems) still won by like, 20-30%.

I tried convincing my parents to move to TX prior to the housing crash and they didn't listen. Oh well.

And the Dems are at least willing to compromise with the Gov, agreeing to all kinds of cuts.
The Republicans will not agree to any tax increases, or compromise, and are thus preventing any kind of agreement to get the budget passed.

At least Arnold is willing to compromise, he is not so ideologically rigid. If Republicans insist on sticking to their unworkable ideology, look for them to be punished (again) in the next election.

The last thing California needs is tax increases and chase what's left of the productive members of society out of the state. Perhaps the Governator should look to Texas and how Texas maintains a 11 billion dollar SURPLUS despite having no state income tax and lower sales tax?

Good, overpaid lumps of coal.

True. I don't know about CA but the majority of the state employees here in my state are some of the most lazy useless people I have ever met and they get paid a small fortune for doing practically nothing. A reduction of about 25% of the state workforce wouldn't be missed here.

Typical right-winger, insists they get everything they asked for, then calls it a compromise.
Keep it up, Republicans may go on the endangered species list here.

... and it's a wonder why the state is in such horrible shape?? I think the reason why is pretty evident in your post.

Cost of living, that "insane money" is paid back to the state in taxes.

The man himself might not pay out a lot directly, but every single business he buys products (food) and services from (oil change) has raised the price of those goods by at least 30% higher than other states, such as Alabama. Ergo, your income MUST be at least 30% higher to stay ahead of the taxation.

Cutting state employee pay would be a good start, but it shouldn't be across the board. I've worked with great state workers, and some terrible ones, and the terrible ones usually make a crapload of money along with the ridiculous pension plans.

Ever work with a CA state employee & wondered what their pay was? http://www.sacbee.com/statepay/
