Obsolete and broken devices will orphan many many cables.Isn't there an inherent contradiction in that statement? If every device that NEEDS a USB cable came with one, we'd still have a 1 device per cable ratio. I don't see any logic in your statement.

I disagree. And what about Obsolescence? Right now, I have about 2 dozen telephone cords in my basement but only 3 phones. During spring cleaning last year, I threw out many old computer cables.Things don't break that often or that fast. Cables break too, so there should still be a roughly 1:1 ratio of cables to devices.
