Point is what? Some printers don't include a parallel cable either. Read the box before you buy.

It's pretty much common knowledge nowadays to check the box on whether or not you'll have to buy the cable. It's just another way the manufacturer can lower the price of the printer to make you think you're getting a better deal.

Just order your usb cables from online stores, they can usually be bought for $1-2 dollars and some places even offer free shipping.

Use coupon: PRICEWATCH for free shipping.. :)

Canon usb + // port printer = "cables not included"

What might actually be happening is that fewer and fewer printers (read virtually none)of ANY type are coming with cables included, be they // or USB.

I've never seen a parallel printer include the cable. At least a USB cable has many uses so you may have one around and the larger market may have lowered the price.

I happen to have a couple lying around from cable modems and such which included them but didn't really need them (RJ45 Ethernet also included)...

i noticed that HP has some printers that include the cable and some don't. We were looking at the HP PSC-2410 and noticed that one at Sam's Club called a psc-2410xi came with a cable but one at Micro center without the "xi" didn't.

weird.

Canon inkjets bought at Sams or Costco incle a USB cable. Besides being great printers, another reason to buy a Canon at Sams or Costco.

Stores like Staples, Omax etc. Make little on a printer but gouge the hell out of you on a cable. They call it an "add on".

The stores ask them not to include the cable. It is one of the largest money makers for stores to upsell noobs to a XXL super oxygen free neodymium infused quad sheilded monster cable.

The big stores (BB, Circuit, Comp) also buy custom models with only 1 year warrantys so they can try and sell a extended service plan for 100% profit

It's better this way. If every device that needs a usb cable came with one, we would soon have tons of cables that we would just have to throw away needlessly.

Besides, you can buy them cheap so long as you don't buy the silly brand name cables.

Isn't there an inherent contradiction in that statement? If every device that NEEDS a USB cable came with one, we'd still have a 1 device per cable ratio. I don't see any logic in your statement.

Obsolete and broken devices will orphan many many cables.

Just as they would if you bought a cable seperately. Things don't break that often or that fast. Cables break too, so there should still be a roughly 1:1 ratio of cables to devices.

I disagree. And what about Obsolescence? Right now, I have about 2 dozen telephone cords in my basement but only 3 phones. During spring cleaning last year, I threw out many old computer cables.

So? I'd rather not have to pay more for the printer to get a cable I already have. It's not really a big deal.
