ALL ASUS A7N8X OWNERS PLEASE READ THIS:

To be honest I'm not even sure what bios my Asus A7N8X came with but I only bought it last week if that helps, probably not, anyways I have not had any problems with my board at the moment touch wood. So should I update my bios to the lastest?

If yes then is it easy to use the Asus Auto Update bios feature?

If you have used it then please explain to me what you do and how it works.

My Setup encase it helps is:

ASUS A7N8X DELUXE
1.5 GIG DDR PC2100
AUDIGY 2
GEFORCE 4 4600
60 GIG HARD DRIVE
WINDOWS XP

Yes, its simple. Download the BIOS image from whichever source you choose and extract it to a directory. Then run Asus Update and choose to install it from a file/location, not from the web or ftp or anything like that. Then point Asus Update to the directory in which the BIOS image is stored. Once there, type in the name of the BIOS image you want to flash.

Its actually my preferred method of BIOS flashing, just make sure that your OC is completely stable, or run at default speed.

If you're not having any issues with your current BIOS, don't bother. Early shipping boards came with a terrible beta 1001.G bios, so if you have problems with changing your multi or FSB, I'd flash the BIOS to one of the 1002 versions and then take it from there.

So the first Asus A7N8X motherboards where released with a rubbish Bios aye so did Asus start shipping new Asus A7N8X motherboards with the newer bios?

I'm just wondering if I would have the old bios or the newer one? How do I find out? Please answer both questions if you can.

Disable the full-screen POST banner or whatever and you'll see the BIOS version in your POST log (where it tells you your FSB and clock frequency). Hit pause/break if it is flashing by too fast for you to see. Programs like Sandra will give you the BIOS version in a different format, but AsusUpdate may very well indicate what .bin you are using based off the 100X.XXX numbering system.

From what I've seen, people have been getting boards with 1001E, which was a pretty stable BIOS as well.
