all about lian li cases

ive noticed that lian li makes sooo many cases that i have a hard time figuring out just which one does what and pros/cons, looks, etc. I know my antecs well, but lian li is giving me trouble. I dont know much about the company, as i have never bought a lian li in my life. Does anyone have anything to say about their cases; things to look for/stay away from, and the build quality/cooling between the different models??

thanks

get models that have 120mm fans. if motherboard trays are your thing, that can narrow down the number of lian li cases considerably. The V1100 and similar models (solid front door) have no front intake openings or fans (contrary to that 120mm fan cooling the hd's, none of that air reaches the main compartment), so you'll have to invest in some sort of extra cooling for the main compartment. However, the v1100 and similar models are probably better for silence due to the solid door and sound dampening material used throughout it (but I have no proof 😛). Really they're all pretty good, as long as you stay from the models with anything less than 120mm fans.

If you're looking at Mid-Towers, you can start with the favorite, the PC-7B +2, or PC-60 USB B2.

I owned a few steel cases in the past and now I've 3 LLs. For the money, I wouldn't want anything else. The LLs are so well made and constructed. My case temps run around 48C, under load. Cool cases.......

Interesting comment! I think most Lian Li customers fall into this category...

My question is, why the interest in Lian Li, e.g. what spurred you?

well i have been hearing things from pc enthusists about how well built they are, the great cooling, great outside finish, etc. But, when i first was looking at cases to build my first pc (4 years ago) lian li wasnt a big company. ive built 5 more computers since then, and every time i go for the antec. I think this is because its so much cheaper, and brings down the overal price. But, these pc's were not for enthusists. Also, when i hear lian li, i think of chinese pos? this may be bias, but hey, how can't you

so def. a 120mm fan model. i want the colour black. what kind of finishs on outside panels does lianli offer?

Lian Li cases are made in Taiwan, the last time I checked.

I have two mid-towers and would consider another Lian Li case in a heart beat.
Both VinDSL and Zepper despise Lian Li cases. Go figure 😉

If overcool.com ever gets the Akasa Eclipse 62 back in stock I'll buy one just to have for
the next build. Google for reviews.
Sidewindercomputers (Gary Stofer) will order some if enough ppl request one.
I emailed him last month.

I would steer you to the Lian Li PC7 Plus II. It has 2x120mm fans and an 1x80mm top blowhole. The PC60 uses an 80mm rear exhaust I believe, so I would avoid that case.

I've been thinking about the LIAN LI PC-V1000APLUSII. I like a case on wheels and this one has plenty of space for 3.5 drives(6 which should be enough), comes with 3 120mm and it has a side vent which I like. It also has a side window which I am neutral on as I've never gone for the "bling" factor on my cases.

I do like a good case and my old one is getting a little ragged after all the years.

I just put together a computer with a Lian li 6077B. It's a nice case with some quirks. I like its looks and its a solid unit. The build quality makes a lot of cases look trashy. I went to CompUSA and couldn't believe how cases that looked good online were trashy in real life. The Lian Li's were just the opposite - they look better in real life. The 6077 is very modular and can be configured in a lot of ways. The mobo tray is great and made it possible for me to add on a Scythe Ninja heat sink/fan latter after mobo was installed (It would have been hard to get to upper back anchor without mobo try pulled out).

Some weirdness now ..

I couldn't get drivers to install when trying to get OS on machine. I needed to press F6 to get drives for SATA functions installed using floppy. It turned out my floppy drive wasn't working even if it though it was new. But - it would work hanging from case. It only didnt work when screwed down. I found a few others online that had same problem. Now I have floppy installed in those Lian LI sleeves they have but I dont tighten screws all the way. I had a tool-less case before and really prefer those to all the screws Lian Li has. It's nice to be able to switch hard drives out or other components you need to test in another machine.

My other big complaint about my Lian Li is the blue LED. Its a nice light when computer is on, but when I put computer in stand by the blue LED flashes - and its very very bright. My old Gateway used to have a quiet orange glow around switch when it was in Stand By. The Lian LI pulsates like there was a neon sign in the room. It' s a real pain if your trying to watch TV or sleep in room with this thing in stand-by. I cant imagine why Lian Li would make a computer that looked like a helicopter at night when on Stand By.

All-in-all I like the case because its a beautiful art deco look and very configurable. Lian Li has nice bezels for optical drives (up to 8 front bays if you like) and it has card readers etc and I can strip the thing down to its frame with all side panels and mobo tray removed. It would be easy case to mod I think. The screws suck but if it was tool-less it wouldn't be as configurable. This thing breaks down like Legos or something.

I am looking for way to fix that awful flashing LED - then I'll be quite happy.

Um...

I'm not a linguist, but I think Lian Li literally means, "go to hell at midnight in a helicopter"'... 😉
