A company that's in the business of providing crowd estimates, provided the estimate to CBS:

The company AirPhotosLive.com based the attendance on aerial pictures it took over the rally, which stretched from in front of the Lincoln Memorial along the Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument. Beck and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke at the rally.

Ya know, it's funny that CBS describes that company as "in the business of providing crowd estimates" when that function is listed no where on their website.

Oh oK we can all debate about the number of idiots that Glen Beck attracted to the Lincoln memorial mall.

But can we safely say, they are all idiots? Even if a liberal I think not.

But to some extent it reminds me of that old song, "I am an old hippie and I don't know what to do, should I hold on to the old ways or embrace the new"?

Ya, I know the song police will be after my butt, but I hope we get the idea. Most of the Glenn Beck attendees don't know what to do either. And those people may give a polite listen to anyone.

But to some extent Glenn Beck gave them just a Chinese meal, a few hours later they will be hungry again.

Well one would think so, but the National Park Service (the authority overseeing the National Mall) quit counting many years ago. So, how would they prove anything? Either way?

It's rumored that the public will no longer be allowed to gather at the National Mall because of the costs associated with repairing the grass, etc.

87k sounds like a good estimation to me looking at those photos. Just look at the air photos of football games you can get an idea of how many people that would look like.
