How did so many not-rock folks get into the HoF? Their music may be good but it ain't rock.

Was going to post this - they have been doing it for the last 10 years... That's pretty much what sealed the deal for stating that the hall of fame is really just a joke. Good way to ensure you ruin any prestige it once had.

Not all those bands are rock bands, but if you're gonna include that list, they're still out of whack. Jackson and Elton at 58 and 59? Pff, heresy.

Without even reading it I could come up with a better ranking by farting dungeons and dragons dice in a record store. Which is possibly how that list was put together. Internet lists are designed to emotionally manipulate weak people into reading and arguing about something with all the importance and accuracy of "less filling!! tastes great!!".

As someone who clearly has experience with the dark art of manipulating D&D dice we will take your word for it.

WTF he smoking?

213. Queen — John Deacon, Brian May, Freddie Mercury, and Roger Taylor (2001)

When popularity is factored in, Queen is the most overrated band in the history of pop music. This preposterous aggregation looked and sounded awful from the beginning

Basically just a list of bands he likes and then bands he doesn't like, some of the comments on the bands he doesn't like apparently are kinda funny though.

The guy clearly knows a lot about rock music to be able to comment on every single inductee. However, I am surprised how many he said don't deserve to be on there. I mean, when you're ranking anything, of course there are going to some that rank at the bottom, but there's clearly some real hatred here.

well, it's the hall of FAME, not the hall of talent.

if anything, it should have justin bieber solidly at number 1.

Typical New York critic stuff Ramones above Led Zeppelin. Sex Pistols above Rolling Stones. Their world and my world are not the same.

YEa I looking at that while I love Muddy Waters but I never considered his music to be Rock and Roll. Same with Miles Davis.

The hall is a joke. This list is exactly like the Hall.. someone's idea of what they think is good music. In the worst cases it's just caving to someone's taste (seriously how can ABBA be in there?) and at best it's blocking people that did help define the rock genre.

People like you are why lists like that are a joke. If you were walking down the street and heard some guy reciting a list of his 1000 favorite species of insects you'd move along. But put a list on the internet and your sad little mind gives it value. Why? You're actually threatened that his tastes differ from yours and you want to argue that your idiotic favorite groups are better than his idiotic favorite groups. That's just pathetically stupid. It's a list of some guys favorite and its no more or less valid than the list of stuff my dog perks up to. How is your self-worth so fragile that someone else liking different music gets yours panties in a bunch?

And whether you like ABBA or hate them is irrelevant. By any objective standard they're a hall of fame band, they're one of the 20 biggest selling music acts of all time.

I glanced at the list and moved on. if my panties are in a bunch, it would be on how much stock people take in the Hall so I think you missed my point. I may be misunderstanding the point of the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" but I've not seen it attached to the number of units moved. If we go by that shouldn't Garth Brooks be the Hall? He's sold more units than ABBA link. Hell, Taylor Swift is on her way to being inducted by that logic. Sadly though the process is being voted in by a bunch of anonymous people putting in their "most loved musicians", which makes the Hall worth as much as my music collection.

List are pointless really other than for bean $$ counters.

They need to change the name to

The Music except Country, Classical, Bluegrass, Jazz, Polka, Bluegrass, Hall of Fame.

They inducted Miles Davis, Nina Simone, and Johnny Cash.

Looking at the list, I think the HoF simply went through the Atlantic Rhythm And Blues 1947-1974 boxset and inducted everybody on the first twelve records.

It is interesting, some of them there's maybe one or two sentences about the band/performer, and then two paragraphs about how the HoF sucks and is wrong.
