I'm buying one tomorrow since july 4th sales will be everywhere.
i currently have a 17CRT, this LCD will be mainly for internet and programming (entering my freshman year of CS) anything but gaming....it'll be in a dual screen setup with the CRT. But i may want to watch a dvd or play a game on it thats why i'm looking into 16ms screens.

Any recommendations....i'm looking for the lowest priced one since i'm looking into buying something else with the same money

Do you know of any specific models that will be on sale? The hitachi cml174 is about the cheapest 16ms 17" panel and it is $445 @ Newegg now. People seem to be very happy with it. I am not sure about any of the 15" panels. If you do not watch dvds or play games that often you may want to spend some time looking at the 25ms monitors since ghosting seems to be subjective (some people still notice it at 16ms especially in darker games) and you have the CRT to fall back on just to save some cash. Even then you probably won't find any better quality 17" panels than the Hitachi in your price range.

I frequently play CS, splinter cell, unreal 2 and this system will prolly be my DVD player at my dorm.
I did not know about that 16ms ghosting tidbit...yeah i'll prolly go with a money saver since gaming lcds are so expensive

Like I said ghosting is subjective. You will find people with 30ms panels that don't see it and people with 16ms panels that do (it is there). If you do go for the moneysaver make sure it is 25ms or below. I have heard very few complaints as far as DVDs on 25ms panels so at least you could watch DVDs and many people become used to the ghosting while gaming and don't even notice it. Don't read to much into the ghosting at 16ms comment because the people who see it the most are diehard CRT fans that no lcd could please.

The Hyundai q17 has GREAT reviews, and it's 16ms, and I believe it's only $399 at new egg. Also, it uses the same screen, but you get the Viewsonic name w/ the Optiquest q170 (big name diff eh?)

They are 16ms 17" LCD monitors. I'm getting one.

True. I would go with either of the two unless I could find the
Viewsonic on sale for around $400 which I doubt will happen. I would prefer it just for the looks but I'm sure spending the extra $100 is probably not an option.

I've got a 2 year old Mag 15" LCD with a 30ms response time and I dn't really see any ghosting. I play Counter strike and watch DVDs on it and its not that noticible unless you're really looking hard to see it.

thats one of the best prices i've seen for a 16ms screen although its not very bright

I am not a big Benq fan and I'm not sure who actually makes the panel but as far as I know it can only be one of two companies and that is cheap. They also have a 17" for $339. It kind of looks like a Fischer Price "My First Monitor" but it does meet all the requirements. The brightness of 250 is pretty much standard however I was surprised to see one with like a 400 brightness on the Benq site.
