How do the 'symptoms' differ when your wheels are out of alignment versus when your tires are out of balance?

 
A poor alignment will cause quicker tire wear. Unbalanced tires cause the entire car to shake like crazy.
 
Alignment will also cause your car to "pull" to one side.
