Align to Grid Question

This is the first time I'm experiencing this annoying quibble... I just formatted and every time I set a folder to "allign to grid" and exit, it doesn't save the option so I have to turn it on every damn time I view specific folders. I even tried "apply to all folders" under folder options but no go. The desktop remembers to save the option no problem...
