Alienware

Does anyone actually have an Alienware case? I was wondering if the full tower would provide adaquate cooling for my P3 1ghz. I was going to get one from Directron. And if not, what are some good full tower case recommendations. I was looking at the Supermicro SC750A? I want a case that will be as Quiet as possible. Looking to use Panaflo fans and the Enermax PSU.

Don't mean to burst your bubble here, but there has been many threads about that case and all pretty negative. The hydraulic door on the front, just is on rails and moves up and down. And when its down it blocks the vents on the front, and therefore airflow. Also some other stuff about it not being built well.

The supermicro case is good, I think its a little noisy though. I have an Antec SX830, and I love it. The SX1030 has a door like thing covering up the front drive bays like the Alienware case, but it flips out instead of moving up and down. Hope that helps.

I don't know what Grendel is talking about.. IMHO this is a great case and most of the posts on this forum are positive not negative about this case and almost all the people who own it like it a lot including me.. the front door DOES NOT block airflow.. there is plenty of distance from the door to the fan for adequate air flow.. it is just as easy to build on as an Antec (I own one with the door too and I use the hydraulic case on my main computer instead of the Antec which I gave to the family when I got my alienware case) if you have a loud drive like an Acer or a CD-R drive the door when up muffles the noise of it.. the door itself is very sturdy and looks slick when working to boot.. anyways if you want any more details on it PM me and I'll get back to ya when I can..

BTW Bignate603 the case isn't made by Mushkin.. just customized and sold on their site.. the people who "make" this case import it from places like this

Also for the full tower I'd have to recommend the Fong Kai's also.. they have very good thermals definately better than most.. also the Antec full towers are very good too.. but no one better bash my Alienware case you just can't beat that door and the price..

I own the black hydraulic case, not the full tower, but the mid-tower version (has 3 5.25" bays). It is an adequete case. The sides are easy to take off. There is enough room to work with inside. Also I've tested to see if my case temperature or cpu temperature is affected by leaving the hydraulic door down. I haven't noticed any temperature changes at all. I have tried a 3dcool.com 80mm fan as well as a Antec 80mm fan. I also have a good Fong Kai Power supply that sucks a lot of hot air out of my case. I'm in the process of making a simple power/reset button modifcation so that I can power on and reset my system using new button in the back. So I dont have to lower the hydraulic door just to turn on or reset. Of course if I wanted to I would be able to.

Only problem with this case is that it isn't the best for overclocking. There are not enough places to put fans unless you do case mods. I've been looking at the Antec 1030b, which is the only case I'd trade my current one for. It has plenty of 80mm fan places to help cooling.
