Alienware Question.

Hi, so I have an Alienware M17X R3, with an ATI Radeon HD 6900M, 16GB of ram, an Intel Core i7 2860QM CPU @ 2.50GHZ (it has turbo boost up to 3.1ghz or something like that, don't know much about that part) , now the problem is, my games lag? 😵 Borderlands 2 especially, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be getting any lag with these specs. Anyone have any ideas as to why this machine is lagging? I keep it cool it doesn't get overly hot, it's always on a raised cooling pad, and I also have all my latest drivers.

Turn off PhysX in the game options. That is the most likely issue.

If that doesn't fix it, then lower resolution and/or image quality until it plays acceptably.

"Lagging" refers to network latency. You're having frame rate issues. Just a pet peeve of mine when people call it lagging.

specs are ok...state of the art in 2011 for laptops. Today's games may need a bit more in graphic/cpu. And definitely turn off phys ex.

6970m is getting up there... the 6990m is a bit faster but still aged at this point.

Mobile cards are WAY behind desktop cards of the same name. A desktop 6900 series desktop card is still a pretty big beast, but it uses way more power.

Yup, turning off PhysX and reducing the res should do the trick.

What about other games? Are you playing any? Are they Online Multi-player games? If so, are you having the same problem? And there isn't much you can do about lag...

A Radeon 6970M and 6990M should be about on par with a desktop 6850 and 6870 respectively with slightly lowered clockspeeds. Definitely a big step up from the 5000M series, the top end mobile card of that series using the desktop 5770.
