I'm looking to buy a new pre built pc and was looking at alienware. Are those AMD64 pc's for around $1800 or slightly less any good compared to like other AMD64 pre built pcs from someone else? I haven't seen anyone else cept Falcon-NW with a comparable system.

I was considering something from alienware with 1gb ram and an AMD64 with a descent video card. has to have firewire too. Right around $1800 or less.

I'm just curious what people think of their alienware systems and if they have anything comparable to what i'm mentioning above. How stable are they? How is alienware support and what is their system recovery dvd like? Do they have a 24/7 phone support? do they come with any speakers? or just the Case with keyboard and mouse or what?

How is their noise? loud, quiet?

I do know that Alienware currently have hellacious tech support problems with their notebook lines...I'd assume that carries over to the Desktops...I considered a Sentia notebook, but their technical problems are too high a risk for my needs...

what problems would they have in tech support? not knowing anything? or what? also i read ratings, and they are rated higher for support then most other companies. don't know if it's entirely accurate though.

they ship out faulty machines...machines that have problems or issues before they even leave the warehouse....their forums are buyers only because of the amount of problems....you have to ship the machine back to them, which takes, on average, 6-8 days with their method of shipping, then up to 30-60 days of work, then around 10 days to ship it back....if you want some proof of this, there are numerous posts over at www.notebookreview.com about it from users....For what you pay for the machines, I'd definitely expect better service...

Still...considering their technical service are the same people regardless of machine type, I'd be leary....personally, I'd never pay their premium for a machine, since I can calculate what the actual parts cost...I also saw that they shipped out corrupt system restore CDs to customers.....Seriously though, for how much the machines cost, you think they'd have better service...

My opinion: Go ahead and buy it...you might get lucky, and you seem to want it regardless....

Good Luck!

Yeah I do seem to want one regardless because i've never read anything bad about their support, I've never read a bad review on them either. i have found nothing from any other company that is what I want for $1800 or less. So if there was from another ocmpany what i want for a lot less, i'd go for it in a heart beat. I will not build the pc myself tho, it must come from a major manufacturer.
