after my previous post, i thought i have made up my mind on Dell XPS,
but there's another contender... Alienware...

here's the choices...

1) Dell XPS M170
Pentium M 780
17" WUXGA 1920 x 1200
2GB Dual Channel 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
256MB Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX
100GB 7200rpm HDD

2) Alienware Aurora m7700
AMD Athlon 64 FX-60
17" WUXGA 1920 x 1200
2GB Dual Channel 400MHz (2x 1024MB)
256MB Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX
100GB 7200rpm HDD

uses:
70% photoshop, illustrator, e-mail, excel...
30% games, movies, internet...

any thoughts/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Although Alienware uses industry standard components and makes an effort to tidy up the inside of the case - its pcs are ridiculously overpriced. Dell uses proprietary parts and cuts corners to shave a few cents - their desktops are, however, very reliable.

The XPS line is aimed at gamers, and so differs from their other ho hum pcs. So take a good look at their specs and compare the prices. Be aware though that in every comparison that I have seen the XPS didnt do well compared to Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Velocity Micro etc.

thanx Slowlearner...

my brother bought a system from Alienware... it took them over 1 month beyond the expected ship date...

anycase, still can't make up my mind.
kind of leaning towards the Alienware...

i was told previously, the Pentium M is faster than Pentium 6xx...

how does Pentium M 780 compare to FX-60?
