Alienware Acoustic Dampening

Is anyone familiar with the Acoustic Dampening feature for Alienware systems? I ordered a system (QX6850 3.0Ghz and 8800GTX) with liquid cooling, but am worried that the Acoustic Dampening may raise temps inside the chassis, which might make it harder to overclock. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the radiator for the case outside?

Regardless, I've never seen a case made to radiate heat through the case panels anyway (I'm assuming there's where the dampening is)

Acoustic Dampening = some 5 cent foam. If it gets hot, I suggest ripping it out.

I can't say I agree with your decision to purchase an Alienware, but good luck with it. I'm sure it'll be a beast.

Thanks for the help. I know that getting an Alienware system is always controversial, but I'm long past the days of building my own machines. I didn't really want to get the Acoustic Dampening, but I've seen other systems with it, and it really is very quiet. On the flip side, I've also seen the Alienware systems without it (albeit without liquid cooling either), and they were absurdly loud. A quiet system is very important to me as I live in an open area, and I don't live alone, so any noise is very noticeable. However, with that said, I plan on overclocking the system, and it would certainly suck if the foam padding somehow affected that. But I guess I won't know until I actually try to OC it. Thanks again for your replies, and I'll probably post again when I get my temperature readings, etc.

Also, do you think this topic would be more appropriate in the "Cases & Cooling" forum? If so, I can repost there, or maybe an administrator can move the thread for me...

Hmz, the p182 comes with acoustic dampening as well, and it's not really some cheap 5 cent rubber foam stuck to the sidepanels. It doesn't affect cooling either. I say you're good to go ...

Your still going to have airflow through your case, exhausting from the top with that system so the dampening won't effect anything.

If your rich enough that an extra $2000 in a high end build is meaningless, and some here are in that category, then these systems can make sense. Well made and good support. No way I would touch one myself, but then again I have to work a few months to have a spare 2 grand in the bank.
