Hey all!

I just purchased an Alienware 17R4 as an open box from best buy. It has a gtx 1070 graphics card, 16 gigs of ram and a 6700HQ CPU.

I was recently using an Auros x7 pro-sync with dual 970m's and was tired of all the SLI issues, so opted for a single card solution that was just plain more powerful. Paying around a $1000 for it was also helpful :)

My issue is performance. I'm fairly certain I should be able to run almost, if not, any game on max settings at 1080p 60hz with no problems.

However that doesn't seem to be the case.

World of Warcraft doesn't maintain 60fps even when setting the slider to 7.
Player Unknown Battlegrounds runs like dog crap.
My firestrike score is 13,441! And that's with the cpu undervolted by .1 and the gpu overclocked by 200 on the core and 300 on the memory! Bone stock with an undervolt it's 12,849. That just seems super low! Stock the individual score are: Graphics 16,889, Physics 9,756, Combined 5,542.

For any of you Optimus/Alienware people out there. I have hit FN + F7 and am running in performance mode. IE It doesn't switch between discrete and integrated graphics. It's dedicated graphics all the time.

Please Help!

Thanks!

"open box from best buy"

That being the case, it could be a host of things. Did you have to finish setting up windows, or did it boot to desktop?

It seemed to be a fresh install. I had to finish setting it up.

*Edit*
Actually, I tested it in store and distinctly remember awkwardly setting it up in front of the guy, because I wanted to verify specs, and that was the only way to get to the specs. lol.

Start by updating to the newest drivers for the chipset and 1070. If you have not already done so. This kind of troubleshoot is always tough. I would scour the UEFI for any settings that could impact performance, again if you have not already done so.

If Fn + F5 isn't switching graphics mode for you, you might want to make sure the OSD application has bee installed. Alternatively, I know that in Lenovo laptops the default graphics chip can be set manually. Not sure about Alienware, but you way want to have a look if you haven't already (in which case it would run the Nvidia card all the time).

Those Firestrike scores look about right to me. I see people with your laptop hitting 16k-17k with a 50% overclock on the CPU. Check drivers, check temps.
