How do all of you run it?

I just installed it on my Athlon tbird 900, 320mb ram, Geforce 3 classic /w modest overclock, WinXP pro. I did full install, latest patch, and I started running it at 1024x with quincunx and 4tap anisotrophy, my standard gameplay settings.

Erk. While the frame rate was passible at the beginning of the marine mission, it clearly wasn't fast enough to track aliens moving at a bazillion mph.

So I dropped the rez to 640x480, thinking that it should be real fluid and the anisotrophy and quincunx shouldn't be any real overhead at that rez, but it's still not nearly smooth enough to play it the way I think it SHOULD be played.

I heard the engine "was suck" back in the day, but then there was also a bunch of people saying "hey, I know the demo was crap, but give the game a chance, it runs fine!"

Being that I have 200mhz and a geforce 3 over the "high end" specs it gives of a 700mhz + geforce 2, I wonder how it works for anyone? Should I just bite the bullet and put it on "low detail?" Will that allow me to go high rez and still have 60fps, minimum? Seems like it could be a heck of a game if it ran a Quake III like speeds...

1.3 TBird and 512 ram. Radeon AIW at 1024 and I have no problem. The engine is nothing to write home about but it works fine. well that's my opinion.

1.4 tbird, 1GB DDR, GF3 Ti200 @ 240/500, 1024x768, standard graphics quality settings. Plays really smoothly, never even the slightest hiccup or delay.

I would think his cpu is plenty fast to run the game smootly. Maybe something else is going on with it. Btw, my system (see sig) runs it seamlessly at 1280x1024.

Well of course, even though you have a slower video card than him, your CPU is nearly twice as fast. I'm telling you, his CPU is the bottleneck for that game.

I'm not saying that because my system can run it fine, he should be able to. I'm saying that because my friend has a tbird 1.0 gig with a gts-v which runs the game fine, he should also be able to run it fine as well. Convince me that the 100 mhz makes that much of a difference.

I just finished this game & I really liked it. The predator's missions seemed shorter than the other 2, though.

I'd like to be convinced that your friend with the 1Gig CPU does indeed run it fine. I have a PIII@933, GF2, 256mb RAM and it runs fine for me about 70% of the time. The other 30% it's so choppy it's nearly unplayable.

Yeah, I realize that I'm CPU limited here (I mean, it's pretty obvious when you drop down from 1024X to 640X and there's no speed up) but should I be CPU limited when the HIGH END quoted for the game is a 700mhz chip? Maybe after an upgrade someday it might be more playable (but being that my system will probably handle Doom 3 just as well as AVP2...), I'm largely asking how anyone played it when it came out?

At any rate, has anyone tried it both with Win 98 and Win XP Pro?

I really can't. I've got nothing to back it up except my word. Btw, he runs it on 98 se.
