Went to see it, the theater was almost packed. When the first AvP came out there were too many accusations that the movie was dumbed down because of PG13 rating. Glad to say the new AvP is R rated and feels like one, however it seems directors went overboard and sacrificed everything else in favor of gore.
The movie tried to capitalize on the best moments from Predator and Alien series but did not introduce anything new. The movie pans over the forest and plays music from Predator and what do you know, the next scene is Predator running in the forest. How predictable is that? There are plenty of gore and fights, reminiscent of Aliens, but aliens always always win so you aren't wondering are they going to win, but rather how humans are going to die. Boring as hell. The final fight scene was stolen from the Predator as well.
All in all the movie is a disappointment. It's hard to believe, but there is even less plot that in previous franchises. There is no suspense like in the Alien and there is no nice fights like in Aliens - the puny humans cannot put up a fight and are slaughtered left and right.
The only two redeeming qualities of the movie is that there are a couple of nice deaths, but with entire town being slaughtered they were bound to get some of them right and that unlike in other movies likable characters that normally would survive in other movies DO die here. The overall tone of the movie is show as many gruesome deaths as possible, disregard anything else.
Not very entertaining, at least Sweeney Todd was good.
PS I clearly remember why I don't like going to a movie theaters. Have to arrive 20 minutes before, otherwise only crap seats are left, then sit through 15 minutes of previews. They also had national guard song, guess enlistments are at all times low. Some woman also brought a toddler with her. What kind of an idiot brings a screaming toddler to a sci-fi horror movie? WTF? Some people are just plain dumb.
