Alien vs. Predator Requiem - kind of disappointing

Went to see it, the theater was almost packed. When the first AvP came out there were too many accusations that the movie was dumbed down because of PG13 rating. Glad to say the new AvP is R rated and feels like one, however it seems directors went overboard and sacrificed everything else in favor of gore.

The movie tried to capitalize on the best moments from Predator and Alien series but did not introduce anything new. The movie pans over the forest and plays music from Predator and what do you know, the next scene is Predator running in the forest. How predictable is that? There are plenty of gore and fights, reminiscent of Aliens, but aliens always always win so you aren't wondering are they going to win, but rather how humans are going to die. Boring as hell. The final fight scene was stolen from the Predator as well.

All in all the movie is a disappointment. It's hard to believe, but there is even less plot that in previous franchises. There is no suspense like in the Alien and there is no nice fights like in Aliens - the puny humans cannot put up a fight and are slaughtered left and right.

The only two redeeming qualities of the movie is that there are a couple of nice deaths, but with entire town being slaughtered they were bound to get some of them right and that unlike in other movies likable characters that normally would survive in other movies DO die here. The overall tone of the movie is show as many gruesome deaths as possible, disregard anything else.

Not very entertaining, at least Sweeney Todd was good.

PS I clearly remember why I don't like going to a movie theaters. Have to arrive 20 minutes before, otherwise only crap seats are left, then sit through 15 minutes of previews. They also had national guard song, guess enlistments are at all times low. Some woman also brought a toddler with her. What kind of an idiot brings a screaming toddler to a sci-fi horror movie? WTF? Some people are just plain dumb.

I just expected to be slightly less disappointed. Mission accomplished!

I liked the first one. I will most likely like the 2nd one.

You people expect to go to the movies and get a blowjob from a million dollar hooker. I'm just happy with 2 hours of entertainment from 2 movie series that I like.

It's not even two hours, only hour and a half, and no, my expectations weren't set too high, but that was just plain disappointing.

Actually, a $5 handjob from a dirty transvestite sounds better than a lot of the slop Hollywood is putting out these days.

It's always a little disturbing to me how people rate movies depending on how gruesome a death they saw someone suffer....

I had more fun watching the first AVP than this one even without all the gory stuff. This one is just a bad movie. Too many characters were introduced in this movie, but none of the characters were properly developed to make me feel a connection with. The acting was bad and the story is predictable.

If you really want to watch the movie, wait a few months and rent it on DVD. It's not worth the 5 bucks I paid for.

This is why I hate going to the theaters any more. I go and try to see serious movies and babies are crying and peoples' cell phones are going off. I hate paying that much to sit through all the previews and not be able to relax and watch the movie without being interrupted. I just wait until they come out on dvd or movie channels.

Many people expected the first movie to be good, back when the script was being adapted from some of the earlier AvP comics. Then the project kept getting postponed, cancelled, and revived and in the process they dumped a very good script due to fees they would have to pay for using the existing story.

Then they appear to have gone to the local Super Wal-Mart and offered one of the bag boys a dollar more per hour than he was making there to write a movie script.

Not to be annoying, but it bugs me when people put their review of a movie in the title of the thread.
Sometimes, I like to go into movies without knowing anything about it (including half-ass reviews on internet forums). This is one of those movies.

So, if you remove that stuff from the title, then thanks.
If not, then whatever...

I can understand that. I'd expect that a PG13 movie's R-rated sequel should have more puppies and kitties and maybe some little kids licking icecream cones.

The movie tried to capitalize on the best moments from Predator and Alien series but did not introduce anything new.

So no new weapons, no new tactics, no new aliens? Hey, that's right, the first AVP didn't introduce any new weapons (um...?) or tactics (more than one pred fighting together, temple of doom, etc), and this new AVP certainly won't do more of the same. Hell, the Predaliens were in all the previous predator movies AND alien movies, right?

The movie pans over the forest and plays music from Predator and what do you know, the next scene is Predator running in the forest. How predictable is that?

True. The next scene should have been a Predator complaining to his boss about working conditions while working an assembly line.

There are plenty of gore and fights, reminiscent of Aliens, but aliens always always win so you aren't wondering are they going to win, but rather how humans are going to die.

I bet you would have said the same thing if the preds dominated.

Acid blood and shoulder-mounted plasma casters? Yup, flesh has no problem standing up to those.

Good. Then it's not so *gasp* PREDICTABLE. You people can't ever be satisfied.

The overall tone of the movie is show as many gruesome deaths as possible, disregard anything else.

True enough. The Alien franchise was originally about pitting the best alien versus the best human in a witty insult-challenge fight while the Predator movies focused more on board games. What the fuck do you expect, man?

Not very entertaining, at least Sweeney Todd was good.

And yet you decided to go to the theater anyway. I guess your last statement was correct. :)

What are you talking about? The thread title does not give out any plot details, it just says the movie was disappointing.

I saw this movie for the gore and action. That is exactly what I got.

If I wanted to watch a masterpiece I would have seen No Country for Old Men or Sweeney Todd.

I didn't say it gave out plot details.

If I want to find out if it's disappointing, I'll go to rotten tomatoes or I'll click on the link at Yahoo movies and see the score they gave it.

Well, it makes more sense than hearing Predator music and then seeing an Alien or something. In the Jaws movies, you hear the music when Jaws is about to fuck someone up. I mean, it just makes sense from a theme point-of-view.

"Hard to believe"... well it is science fiction. Haha, and yeah usually humans get wasted in any Aliens movie, nothing new. The only movie where the humans actually put up a fight was in Aliens, and those were colonial marines, not civilians.

Well, was at least Reiko Aylesworth (she plays Kelly O'Brien in the movie) looking hot? :D

90 mins is a common running time.

Don't go see this movie.

The characterization is bad, the plotlines (such as they are) are ridiculously rushed, the acting is pathetic (even by the relaxed standards of the genre). The movie is so dark that you can barely see anything, and I am not exaggerating.

Possible Spoiler
And when I say so dark you can't see anything, I mean they took out electricity for a 50 mile radius for the sole purpose of making sure you couldn't see anything. Even more importantly than that, you don't get a decent look at the Predalien the entire fucking movie.
End Possible Spoiler

Even by the relaxed standards of movies involving aliens and/or predators, this movie was unequivocally worse than the first one, and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. This movie isn't even worth the bandwidth required to download it.

I have to agree to totally here with Sqube...

I went to this last night not expecting ground breaking stuff but I was hoping to see some interesting fight scenes, bad ass predator weapons, new scenario's.

The movie didn't deliver anything for all the hype it gave...

POSSIBLE SPOILER

IMO why the hell are the predators still using the same weapons from like 15 years ago...I was at least expecting something new along those lines.

and why only send one predator...

My and my friend laughed afterwards as the beginning of the movie gives the impression (at least to me) of the following...

Predator adolescent is in the family spaceship cruising around the galaxy and screwing off with something he shouldn't be messing with (The Alien).

Alien gets loose and kid panics

Kid shoots hole in family vehicle and crashes it into earth

Calls On-Star...

Dad sitting at home watching the boob-tube gets notified and hops in the corvette by himself...goes to bitch out the kid...on earth...

Rest of movie ='s bad acting, poor action sequences and shitty ending...

leeland, I think that's about as accurate an assessment of the movie as you can get.
