Alien VS Predator problems with 6800GT system

First is first. My system specs are in my sig. Second, I am trying to play the ORIGINAL AVP for PC (the "Gold" edition, that you can save your game in). Its not that fantastic of a game as far as graphics are concerned, but I had a blast with it. I am trying to play it again, and after loading the game up, and starting a mission, the screen is ENTIRELY black. I can move around, and if I do, enemies will start shooting at me, but I can't see a damn thing. AVP is a DX6 game, so it is outdated. Is there anything I can do to get this game working on my machine, or am I SOL? Thanks for the help.

OK, so, what did you do, if anything to get it to work? I just fumble-futtzzed around again, trying to get it to work. No go, still.
 
Are you using the latest nvidia driver? I can't think of anything else.

What resolution are you trying to play teh game at?
 
I don't kow man, I was playing AVP2 gold the other day, I don't know if there is a AVP gold, but I ordered AVP and gonna play it soon, hopefully if I don't get your problem.

Tried it. Doesn't help.

On a positive note, I went out and bought AVP2 Gold today, and it works flawlessly. I just wanted my Predator fix. I just think they're so cool 😀 . Does anyone else have any input?

lol jk, I would suggest trying different drivers with the game, or maybe using something to make your card and compy support DX6....i really dont know....
 
Is that one of the games that you must use 60Hz or it craps out? I remember there were a couple like that.

There aren't any patches for the Gold version. The patches for the original game are already included, thats why its gold

I will try the 60Hz thing, but it will annoy the LIVING HELL out of me, as I can't stand anything below 85Hz. My eyes notice flickering lower than 85Hz. Maybe I should get an LCD 😛 ?
 
Nope, not a 60Hz bug. I tried several different resolutions, from 640x480 on up, including 16 and 32-bit. I also set it to Win98\ME compatibility mode, and no go. Any other suggestions?
