@pcgeek11, I tried to quote you, but must be doing it wrong...

Indeed. Count your blessings. Global IT corps have been decimating their U.S. workforces for a couple decades. I know a couple guys who missed their pension cutoffs by days or weeks. No pension for you....

For instance, the 401k for myself is 100% match up to 5%, would be 6% if I was hired a year earlier. Still pretty darn good comparatively. Hired 2014 or later, 100% match up to 2%. And since wages are lower than previous generations, that measely amount hurts even more.

Oh, and btw, the company doesn't put in their match for the year until the end, if youre let go before december 15th, you dont get that years company match either. If you're 50+, that could be 20k you don't get.

Outside of my employer, organizations are doing similar tactics, laying off entire IT departments and putting it out to contactors, they call it "outsourcing", but in reality it's H1-B's coming to the states and displacing U.S. workers....

Dude, That does suck. I do feel for you.
We get 75% match up to 9% on the 401K and it is paid in on each paycheck.

Alexandro is attempting to stop the criminal deal to bring Amazon to New Jersey. I respect that. She is not a corporate stooge like Cuomo who okayed billions in bribes to Amazon (including a helipad for Jeff Bezos) to entice them to New Jersey.

She will fail of course. The billionaires ALWAYS get what they want.

The Wall Street Journal did an article a few weeks ago about how FoxConn is attempting to fill its engineering positions in Wisconsin with Chinese workers. So basically Walker got the taxpayers to pay for a company to come to Wisconsin to suppress engineering salaries in the MidWest. Brilliant.

This Ocasio-Cortex the Democrats are so proud of has a lot of Trump similarities....

Both from the corrupt state of NY.
Both greenhorns with no political experience.
Both loud mouths.
One wants Mexico to pay for a wall. The other wants corporations to pay for healthcare.

I wish her luck with the environment, but it's not a good start when you apply and win a new job and didn't think to take into account that you can't afford the place you'd have to relocate to.

Because, of course, a New Yorker like Ocasio-Cortez is exactly the same as Republicans who disenfranchise black voters, take bribes from gun and fossil fuel companies and knowingly support the overt corruption and lies of Trump. Right.

Also, if you hadn't noticed, she's neither completely unfamiliar with politics (she interned with Sen. Ted Kennedy, majored in it in college and was an organizer in Sanders' 2016 campaign) nor shooting for the highest office in the land. And more importantly, she doesn't assume she knows everything. That was and is one of Trump's central problems -- that he's completely clueless about politics, but thinks he's a genius. Ocasio-Cortez is an actually intelligent person who's likely to learn from her time in office and defer to experts when necessary.

The hilarious thing is that you imply a xenophobic wet dream is just as unrealistic as a desire to provide affordable health care for everyone. Ocasio-Cortez may be very optimistic, but I think she'd have an easier time with her plan than Trump's wall (which, thankfully, will never be built).

And I'm sorry, I didn't know you had to be wealthy before you became a Congressperson. I subscribe to this silly notion that Congress is an institution by the people for the people, and that it doesn't matter how much money a candidate has.

This is a space where I think Democrats can address the issue of immigration and wrestle narratives back from conservatives.
Additionally it can help highlight and defuse the racist approach Trump is taking.

Clearly we need to be able to control borders and invite in the people we want that can help strengthen the country.

Using the immigration system to undermine the leverage workers have is an abuse, and ironically often pushed by the corporate backers which heavily fund elections, esp on the right.

Hey, I appreciate the sentiment. It's not my problem alone, millions of Americans shoulder this reality. So when our federal government rewards these entities with a 40% tax cut that will be paid back by the middle class, I have animosity towards those who will continue voting to make that happen, more so I'm disappointed in Americans overall.

Ocasio-Cortez is in a safe district where she didn't have to sell herself to the highest bidders.

Shame all of our Congress critters couldn't be as organic and human as that. Most are instead slaves to Wall Street, and spend many hours a day begging them for bribes.
"And your job, new member of Congress, is to raise $18,000 a day. Your first responsibility is to make sure you hit $18,000 a day. "

From the story:

" "I just want to let you know how pride I am of each and every single one of you for putting yourselves, and your bodies, and everything on the line to make sure that we save our planet, our generation, and our future," Ocasio-Cortez said "

I am pride of her too and pride of the fact she's the new leader of the left-wing Democrat movement.

Yeh, GOP voters only want the best & brightest immigrants who'll slot into the economic foodchain above them & their children. Meanwhile, they'll rave about under educated immigrants who barely speak English stealing American jobs.

I think he was poking fun at the article as that is how they worded the statement:

"I just want to let you know how pride I am of each and every single one of you for putting yourselves, and your bodies, and everything on the line to make sure that we save our planet, our generation, and our future," Ocasio-Cortez said "

He was using the mis-wording of the article to belittle AOC.

Double down on the attempt to equalize the two, gg.

Think for yourself. I'm sure there's some differences if you take off your #bothsides decoder ring that's telling you they're both from New York.

And government doesnt fund itself. Not sure why you think it does. Take for instance the tax bill end of last year, where did we fund those tax cuts from?

You know I guess I should realize that in this forum things are taken way to seriously. There's obviously major differences between the 2 people besides anatomy and R & D, but there are similarities as well.

Of course it funds itself, it's called taxes. Have you ever tried to not pay them? Anyway, how much do they need for us to generate before it's enough? If her plan includes cutting spending or providing services to pay for free health care I'm all for it. To target beyond taxes generated and now put business in the cross hairs that create jobs is dangerous. It's a small sample size but the attempt to do this in Seattle already failed.

Should Amazon be in NY tax free? No, of course not but they aren't entirely the enemy. Wasteful government spending does more damage then corps.

I'm starting to warm up to Ocasio-Cortez, I heard she protested at Pelosi's offices for her Green New Deal.

Obama was Hope and Change, but she's Change or Die. I can't really complain about a politician that isn't afraid to sacrifice her own in the name of progress.

It wasn't a protest. It was a demonstration in favor of what Pelosi had already done, which was to call for revival of the climate change committee. Some of them were firmly committed to getting arrested, anyway.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/08/poli...ommittee-democrats-congress-pelosi/index.html

That was before the demonstrators came to her office.

Ignorance strikes again.

Take a look at this list: Tax revenue to GDP ratio.

Look at where the US is, look at the countries that are above it and then compare what the QOL is for the average citizen.

Your tax code is a joke, especially the corporate one.

So you are close to admitting your original assertion was a misrepresentation of the two individuals, which is good, considering how foolish that comparison was.

Our government procures funding from it's citizens, it doesn't fund itself, and this is a hotly debated topic like....always. for instance, the most recent tax bill borrowed 1.5T from outside to U.S. to give wealthy people even more money, and that loan will be paid back by increased taxes on the middle class in just a few short years. Any savings your seeing now, you best be saving it for later.. If you want to wait for that trickle down, that's up to you...but I certainly won't support policies to reward those same job creators for gutting the middle class.

Lastly, Massachusetts has had healthcare for all with a penalty for those who choose no coverage for 15 years. Healthcare for all is certainly an achievable goal. It's just another Boogeyman that the R's leadership will hammer on, and likely to use outright lies and duhversion to avoid or try to nuke it's implementation, similar to the ACA.

She's gonna be real sad when she actually gets to work and finds out the Old Boys Club doesnt give a shit about her and won't do anything for her.

And with absolutely no results she will not be getting reelected.

If she's as savvy with social media as the right fears, she will be just fine IMO. Call them out and expose them to the younger voters, they may just change their tune.
