LOS ANGELES, Calif. Feb. 1 ? "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek will resume taping his Emmy award-winning quiz show Tuesday after escaping serious injury when he fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck on a rural road.

The 63-year-old television host was driving alone in the Central Coast town of Templeton around 2:30 p.m. Friday when his truck drifted off the road, sideswiped a bank of mailboxes and sailed over an embankment into a ditch.

Trebek was not hospitalized and was not cited.

"I am very lucky and thankful that no one was badly hurt," he said in a printed statement. "My back hurts a little, but I plan to be in the studio this Tuesday for our regular tapings."

Trebek owns and manages a horse breeding and training farm about eight miles southeast of Templeton. He was returning from a family lake home in Lake Naciemento when the accident occurred.

Repost. A couple times I think. But the asleep at the wheel part was interesting - as it wasn't in the original article anywhere.

"Asleep at the wheel.... literally"

someone should explain the word literally to you...

Edit: for example, "he got his ass kicked, LITERALLY" as in someone actually kicked the guy in the butt...

Perhaps *you* should brush up on your reading comprehension.

He actually fell asleep at the wheel, hence, literally.

as opposed to the times you fall asleep at the wheel without FALLING ASLEEP? It makes no sense...

He got his ass kicked could mean he got beaten up, or he got kicked in the butt.
He fell off the wagon could mean the person is back to their addiction, but with "literally" added, he actually fell off a wagon...
There is no reason to add literally there because "Falling asleep at the wheel" means actually falling asleep at the wheel...

But i guess people could interpret "asleep at the wheel" as just not paying attention. Oh well, felt like being a dick. sue me :D

Geezus..some people can be so dense.

"Asleep at the wheel" is a saying...a phrase...a cliche. It means something along the lines of missing something obvious, such as, the quarterback must have been asleep at the wheel to not see that wide open receiver.

No no no, you don't get it. What he is saying is that "Asleep at the wheel" is just a phrase for saying that someone is not paying attention.

Like:
"He must have been asleep at the wheel because he wasn't paying attention"

Get it? ;)

I haven't slept in over 50 hours and have class in 6 hours..and doing homework. I earlier this evening over 60 miles very deprived of sleep and barely handling the wheel and air drumming in my car  (yeah I have drum sticks in my glove compartment). I'm suprised myself as to why Im not on an ambulance stretcher right now
