Anyone ever dealt with this first hand, either through a family member of personally? How did you deal with it? Any recommendations on the best course of action?
 
there's inpatient and outpatient rehab

Find a place in-between work.
They will also have you do AA.

It's a life altering experience.
Some make it ... some don't
 
My mom was an alcoholic, but she had some mental problems associated with a stroke too. I cant differentiate between teh alcohol problems and the metnal problems.
 
stop drinking would be the way to go. If you (or whoever) cant handle it by themselves, either get some moral support from friends, or go into rehab

I knew alcoholics in college, they were the same people who couldn't get themselves out of bed in the morning to go to class.

Back then I might have drank just as much as they did. But I could stop and they couldn't. I'm not going to judge them, only assume they have freewill.

Well, I wasn't involved really, firsthand, but it's an odd story.
My friend's girlfriend's mother went into rehab voluntarily. Her children (friend's girlfriend, her brothers and sisters) went to live with their aunt. When the mother got out of rehab, she made the kids stay with their abusive father because she refused to take them back in. Well, after a year or so they finally moved back in with their mom, and i guess everything is going alright, but now my firend and his girlfriend are apparently deadseat against rehab and now says it ruins peoples' lives. F-ed up case. 😕

I'm an alcoholic.
I've been sober for almost 2 1/2 years.
I started with rehab and AA. I still go to meetings 5 or 6 times a week.

The best course of action for you or someone else?
I'm not sure what you're looking for here.
