My personal test: If alcohol was suddenly gone from the face of the planet, would you be more than just a little disappointed? That is, would you be angry, or think you couldn't have fun on weekends, or something similar?

Man, I answered more than half of those with 'yes'..

Are you blacking out/having brown-outs?

Nope, I can still walk up and down stairs, I get all happy, laughingjoking around, type of feelings. According to one of the sites that was suggested I probably have a BAC of around .15 when the night is said and done. Granted I am buzzing, but not fall down drunk.

It is not 18 shots. It is 3 Drinks per night Each Drink Contains:

6oz Sailor Jerry 92proof Rum - Room Temp.
You need to think about where in the world you read this. In most of the world, a shot of alcohol is ~1 fl oz. Thus, your drink contains 6 shots. Three drinks * 6 shots each = 18 international shots.

In the US, a shot is often 1.5 or even 2 oz. Thus, using the US measurement, you are consuming 9-12 shots.

I use ~1oz of rum = ~12oz beer. I'm not saying you don't, but that is getting your drink on. I usually fire down about 2 jack & cokes 3-4 nights a week each with ~4oz of jack.

That's a massive amout of alcohol. I used to split a 1L bottle of vodka every friday night with my drinking buddy, plus 2-3 more drinks out at the bars, and always ended up obliterated. I quit doing that. It comes out to about half the amount you claim to drink per weekend. I couldn't imagine doing that two nights in a row.

I don't think you are an alcoholic, but there are varying degrees of alcoholism, starting from "I don't drink", going all the way to "I need to drink constantly to function, and drinking is a problem that has affected my family/social/work life". So you are definitely closer to being one than the average person.

It's weird that you're not getting hammered or getting hangovers though. I don't see how it can be healthy either way. Try at least cutting this to one night a week. Why are you drinking this much at home twice a weekend anyways?

10 beers and I am out...with a HORRIBLE hangover the next day.

If you don't get DUIs, miss work, or have social problems because you are sloppy drunk, you have nothing to worry about. If you can perform as a functional member of society, those "test" are junk and are just another way for weak people to impose their ideals on everyone else.

me and the girlfriend hanging out usually, grilling, watching movies etc. Neither of us have any close friends here (New city) plus we are not in to the "club" scene. And we would rather drink at home and have friends over sometimes, rather than out at a bar. Cheaper, and safer(aka no drunk/buzzed driving)

Maybe not now, but you are definately quickly on your way to becoming an alcoholic.

That is a LOT to drink especially if you do it regularly.

18 ounces of um is 12 drinks. That's a LOT.

OP how old are you? It seems you are following what I see to be the norm around people such as you (and me)

College age - drink a lot nightly

mid 20's to early 30's - drink like OP

mid 30's to mid 40's - drink 1-2 beers a night, maybe 5-6 on sunday watching football

mid 40's and beyond - drink a beer here or there

Me and my friend just split a 750ml of vodka the other day (over 3 hours) and was just fine the next morning. Honestly, I can live without it. I'd rather drink pop or water.

Are you living to drink, or are you drinking to live.

Try this test.

Give up all alcohol for 30 days and then see how you feel about it.

Friend you are an alcoholic.

The problem with Alcoholics is they lie to themselves about their addiction. Alcohol alters your thinking patterns. While drinking this way and denying your problem you are basically a slave to your addiction. I say to be truly free prove you can go without alcohol for 30 days.

If you cant you have a disease and are an addict. If you cant quit drinking you are not a free man you are a slave to the alcohol, and the company that is making it, and the Government by paying a high tax for consuming it.

I quit drinking over 10 years ago. I probably save enough money to buy a new computer every year.

I hate this argument... give up ANYTHING you are accustomed to enjoying and see if you miss it, be it mountain biking, chocolate, sex, qdoba burritos, caffiene, long walks on the beach, etc.

That is a sh*tload. 18 shots a night? Even frat boys don't even go this far..

You may feel fine, but your liver may not like you very much.

18/1.5=12

its 12 shots and thats nothing

ahen i was in college that woudl be what i drank to pregame before drinking

Who cares how it's affecting your brain? I'd be worried about your liver. I don't know that mixing it will prevent the damage to your liver long term. I don't think you are an alcoholic, as one who lived with an alcoholic growing up. But you might be causing your body long term harm. Or you might not be. This is a question for your doctor, not for ATOT sophists.

if someone thinks you are an alcholic, then you probably are.

if you have to post on ATOT to find out, then you probably are.
