In Page 46 of FHM there is a little blurb abouit a machine that turns alcohol into a mist that you inhale.
Benefits include:
quicker buzz
limited hangovers
fewer calories.

but the machine costs $3000

what do you guys think? if you can attach some tubes to a humidifier and pour your favorite liquer into it, will it be the same?

discuss!

Edit: now with link..you can SNORT it too!link

If the 'real' machine costs $3k, I think it's safe to assume that it's a little bit more complex than a humidifier. Humidifers don't make mist- they make vapor. You'd be inhaling alchohol vapor, not mist. Difference in effect? I'd bet on it. Not to say you won't get an effect your way, nobody knows until you try it. A mist can be produced by an airbrush type apparatus- fast moving air blows over a body of liquid (preferably small, like the end of a tube) and picks up the liquid as it moves by, and throws them into the air.

I'd be worried about some drunk setting the mist on fire.

By "your favorite liquer", I hope you mean everclear, because anything else is going to funk up a humidifier.

Why would you do this. This is for losers that drink just to get drunk.

This reminds me of my friends idea to hook up an alcohol IV because she didn't like the taste.

Quite a few people do. It is called social drinking. Furthermore, many people drink 1-2 glasses of wine per day for their health.

Tobacco ;)

ok, i've never done this but i think it would work, heat some alcoholic beverage and have some metal plate with ice cubes above it, and the vapor that condenses on it should be all most pure alcohol, but it will evaporate at a low temp so you have to keep it cold

You can get 95% alcohol this way but no purer.

Or you could just buy everclear. Which is pretty darn cheap.

You don't drink to get drunk/buzzed? Sure sure, keep telling yourself that.

As opposed to what? Drinking to for the health of your liver? Besides wine and after dinner drinks, I generally don't drink BECAUSE the only purpose is to get a buzz/drunk, and when I do drink, thats just what I do, get a buzz/drunk.

what BDB means is if you mix ethanol/water, you can't separate them more than 95% ethanol only by recodensation.

There's no way that you would be able to get 95% alcohol without precise temperature control. 95% is hard to get even with a decent still and a single pass.

BTW, Proof is twice the percentage. 100% alcohol = 200 proof.

Traditional vodka is 80 proof, 40% alcohol.

Correct, it is an azeotrope (sp?).

I've worked with 200 proof ethyl alcohol in the labs at room temperature. It is possible to achieve, but not commonly used.

Ethenol is not the same as the alcohol you consume. Ethenol contains an unsaturation.
