I don't really drink to excess, but sometimes if I haven't drank in a couple of weeks and I have a few the night before I seem to wake up the next day with tons of energy, feeling great.

I usually notice it when I have been having a busy week at work and waking up tired each morning then after a moderate drinking session the night before I wake up the next day and feel awesome all day.

It doesn't always happen (I have no control over it) but I have always assumed that the drinking has kickstarted my body and flushed all the toxins or whatever are building up away with the alcohol.

That said it seems like a pretty silly idea.

Thoughts/similar experiences?

Everyone is different. Usually it's the opposite that happens to most.

When and if I choose to drink (which is rarely) it makes me feel like ***plete shit the next morning.

not my experience

Guys, don't get me wrong, I mean to say that this happens sometimes. My usual reaction to a moderate drinking session would be to wake up and feel like I haven't had a good nights sleep or maybe have a hangover. This just seems to happen on odd occasions and it is only ever when I have had a few the night before.

Alcohol can be used as a sleeping aid - so after a few, it might just be helping you sleep better and put you in a deeper sleep.

It depends. If you get really smashed before bed, you'll generally wake up hungover (from dehydration as much as anything else). However, if you get a good buzz going, it may actually help you fall into a deeper sleep faster so your body is more alert when you wake up. Or you're just an oddball with a lucky reaction to alcohol which you should obviously be taking greater advantage of.

with me it depends on where I sleep, if I'm not in my own bed I'll wake up no later than 8am (if I haven't gone to bed by then I wont be able to sleep at all) and feel pretty well rested. if I'm in my own bed I'll wake up at 10am and be really tired for the rest of the day. It's pretty weird but practically never fails.

I never get hungover, ever.

If I have 1 or 2 drinks it really doesn't affect my sleep either way. If I have 4 or 5 the alcohol makes it harder for me to sleep, so I don't sleep as well or as much and then I'm tired/grumpy.

I get what you are saying and it might be correct but I never feel that refreshed any other time even though I can tell when I have had a good nights sleep compared to a poor one. I don't really know how to explain it I just feel "better" way more alert mentally and physically.

It is one of those things I just assumed happened every now and again to people. Anyone with a medical background want to explain if it could be my liver being kicked into over time and cleaning out built up toxins or something similar...
