Alcohol on cruises...expensive

I just got back from a 10 day cruise through the caribbean. Alcohol on the ship is over priced. A bottle of beer was about $6. Off of the ship, at places like Panama and Honduras, you could buy two beers and two shots of Tequila for $4. I stopped drinking on the boat after 4 days when my ship account was creeping towards $100 for purchases of alcohol. And, the customers on the ship pay for half of the employee's wages on the ship. The ship pays a waiter $50 a month, and it is expected for each person taking the cruise to pay about $400 in tips at the end of the cruise. Ridiculous!!!!

First cruise? 😉
It was like that on both of the ones i went on, we brought alot of booze on our own so we didnt get bent over the coals.

The cruise I was on didnt allow anyone to bring their own alcohol, and although you could buy cheap alcohol at the places we stopped at, they took it and would give it back on the last day on the cruise.

the cruise i went on had this thing where you can buy an alcohol pass which was basically like 10 or 12 drinks for about $40ish, so it ended up being like about $4/drink.

yea its a f*cked wage system, the waiters and staff depend mostly on tips for their wages... u can't stiff em. the upfront price of a cruise is a joke.

you must be on the wrong cruise...go on a cruise with free booze

Drinks are never included.

From people I've talked to, alcoholic drinks weren't included with the price, but you could bring your own booze on and mix it with the complimentary sodas and juices (I'll tip good if I'm getting free soda/juice and I can mix my own drinks🙂 )

Cruise ships cost about 200 million to manufacture. Add in misc. costs, and they have to make it that expensive so they turn a profit.

That sucks they wouldnt let you bring your own stuff.
We had other college kids near us smoking stuff they brought like it was going out of style. No way in hell i would have done that, however someone narked on them and they got raided when they got into US waters on the way home. They didnt have anything on them at the time (they said they finished it up when we talked to them the next morning), kinda funny though.
