SCHEDULE I.

(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.

(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Why does alcohol not meet the criteria for scheduling, but other drugs, such as cannabis, do?

edit: Why aren't nicotine/tobacco products scheduled?

Because it's not regulated by the FDA.

There's nothing profound in pointing out the hypocrisy of drug laws in America. Everyone knows. There's too much invested in proving the "Bad" drugs bad to ever see any backpedaling. Many differnet people profit off of drug scheduling, including the government.
