They both seem to install things you don't necessarily want. I've always used DAEMON in the past but now I hear the spyware is worse.

Alcohol 52% Free Edition Thread

Alcohol 52% Free Edition installs no spyware, just uncheck the option for the toolbar during the install wizard and it will not install any toolbars.

Rundown:
Alcohol 52% Free Edition allows you to create your own images, Daemon Tools does not.
Alcohol 52% Free Edition allows you to mount 6 virtual drives, Daemon Tools allows only 4.
Alcohol 52% Free Edition allows you to right click and mount, not sure if Daemon Tools has added this feature.
Both are free (to home users at least)
Both make use of the DuplexSecure SPTD

interesting. i never heard of alcohol 52% and have always used 120% in the past before switching to daemon tools. w/ an addon, vx something or other, daemon tools is able to right click and mount images. what image formats are supported by 52%? any more or less than those supported by daemon?

IIRC, they support the same types. Alcohol 52% lacks the burning ability and the number of virtual drives of Alcohol 120%.

Alcohol 52% Free Edition offers more virtual drives and more importantly, the ability to make one's own images over Daemon Tools.

I've never had any luck using Daemon tools and have never been a big fan of Alcohol. I'm still using Nero 6

As long as you don't blindly fly through the installation of DaemonTools clicking nextnextnextnext as fast as you can, it doesn't have spyware either. You can uncheck those options.
