This phone just came out on pre-order for $200. Any opinions? Other than paying the early adopter tax, seems like a pretty well-spec'd phone for the price to me. If the camera had OIS then I'd probably pick one up just to play with.

I may pick one up. OIS isn't a deal killer for me especially at the $199.99 price.
Not to mention i have $80 amazon gc sitting on my account O_O

isekii, if you get I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about it. I was interested in the 5.5" model when I saw the videos after CES.

What is the 'early adopter tax' you speak of?
This phone is expected to be closer to $250 on release.

I ordered one of these because it seems very good for the price.

One thing to note about the gsmarena specs: the LTE bands they have listed are wrong. This phone supports the AT&T bands.

it supports all t-mobile band too. Band 12 was also listed as well which is great for T-mobile.

Really can't complain about a nice spec phone for $199 but the design looks like it was from 5 yrs ago. Just one person's opinion.

I ordered from Amazon too.
And looks like I can still apply more Gift certificates as I earn them.

I wasn't expecting such high marks from The Verge. If something happens to my OPO I will give the 5.5" Idol a shot.

If they'd put in like the snapdragon 801 with this spec and 32gb and billed $300-$350 It would be an amazing hit.

So after playing around with this phone for a few days I have to say it is an incredible deal.
I'm very pleased with this for $200, and I would have still been pleased at $300.

The screen is pretty good, it's snappy, the battery life seems excellent.
The only thing I'm not in love with is the size.
Although, if you don't like this phone because it is too big, you won't like any other 5.5" phones either.

I'm sure I'll get used to the size, and I can't recommend this more for anyone looking to get an off-contract phone.

I am going to wait for the new Nexus 5. I wish someone would do a non-phablet phone with decent specs for $200 :(

How is the camera on that thing?

As a preface, I am coming from an HTC One XL (a pretty old phone these days).
The camera is better than that one in about every way I can tell.

The auto focus is not as accurate as my friend's S6.
Sometimes I have to poke the screen to convince it where it should be focusing.
On the other hand, it has an actual manual focus control; a feature I have wanted on a phone for a long time.

It can take burst pictures 'very quickly' (sorry if that's not scientific).

Honestly, I'm not the best judge of color accuracy or anything like that, but I think the pictures look pretty good.
