I just received an albatron 17 asd lcd from newegg - it seems that from the newegg reviews that there is an old and new version of this monitor - the old version has a contrast of 450:1 and a response of 40ms while the new one is 500:1 and 25ms. newegg advertises the specs for the newer version. I didn't want to take the monitor out of the box until i was sure - i am sending this monitor on to my son at college - the manual refers to 450:1 contrast which makes me worried - some folks have said the manual is generic for all albatron 17 lcd's - is there anyway to be sure which version or should I just send it back based on the manual?

thanx

It depends on what your son is going to do with it. A 40ms response time would be terrible. I just sent back a monitor with a 25ms response time because it ghosts in games. I now have a viewsonic vp171b with a 16ms response time and there is no ghosting in games and movies. For word processing it might not matter.
