Albatron KX18D PRO II - Northbridge Fan

I have an Albatron KX18D PRO II with a Northbridge (nforce2 spp) fan that is failing. Is the fan "just for looks" on this board, or is it legitimately needed?

I need to know if I can either just

1) Remove the fan, and keep the heatsink there.. and it should be fine

or

2) What I can replace it with.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have narrowed it down to the Northbridge definitely, now. I've replaced all other fans.

Does anyone have any idea about my previous post?

Thanks ( I love Zalman products. I use their 92mm fans like crazy). So, my northbridge would probably be fine with just a heatsink, no fan?

Yup. The CPU cooler will provide air for it.
