7 day cruise leaving from Vancouver on Sunday. Flying out to Calgary tomorrow morning and then driving through the mountains to Vancouver.

I will update on the ship if they have computers.

EDIT

Depart Vancouver on Sunday
Ketchikan on Tuesday
Juneau on Wednesday
Skagway Thursday

UPDATE 1

Well, just made it through most of the Rockies. Went to Olympic village in Calgary to take the zip line down the hill but it was closed for the day...bummer. Drove through the mountains seeing Caribou on the way (with pics to be posted later on) and ended up in Revelstoke for the night. Neat little town, saw a truck drive by with 2 Ski-Doo's covered in snow.....apparently there is 5' of snow still.

From there we took a the long way to Kelowna (which is where we are now for the night) Saw a Moose on this leg of the journey (pics also)

The scenery is amazing up here. Never have I seen anything like it.

UPDATE 2

In Vancouver now. Staying at the Empire Landmark Hotel on Robson st. 23rd floor. Awesome view.

I must say though, parts of downtown are disgusting. Like that of a dump.

Boarding the ship today at noonish and departing sometime this early evening.

Awesome, I spent a week in Alaska last summer and it is beautiful this time of year. The excess daylight might throw you off a tad but it won't be hot at all.

What, not hot? It's 64F out right now... I actually used my air conditioning today when I went to lunch..... That's hot for us. 🙂

It actually gets in the 90s here in the summer.

Cool. If you like nature, you'll love Alaska. Get off the ship and see all of the national forests and stuff. The towns where the ship stops are all touristy, try to get away from them if you can.

Have a wonderful time!
What cruise line? What ports? Are you doing a cruise/tour too? I promise you your ship will have computers... unless its a sibling of the Titanic 😉

Since it is summertime, someone might want to do a cheap cruise to Alaska.

Buy a walk on ticket on the Alaska ferry system, sleep on the decks of the ferrys under the solarium. Bring some hooch, snacks, sleeping bag, tent and stuff. You'll have an open ticket so you can get on and off when you wish. There are youth hostels. I've done it in the 80s for about $135.00.

what cruise line? i went on an alaskan cruise this time last year on regent and it was awesome. only bad part about the trip was going from th 50F degree weather in anchorage to the 98F stepping off the plane in new orleans 🙁

Yeah, you'll be able to get online, BUT until they upgrade to cat5 in the rooms you'll be relegated dialup that disconnects every 45 seconds or you can pay $.50/min. in their internet café.

$.50/min?.....wow, see you guys in 12 days.

Just came back from an Alaskan cruise last week. Went from Whittier to Vancouver. Was a blast but my only complaint was the food. Since 90% of the alaskan cruise were elderly folks, the food was mostly bland (read boiled/broiled crap) and hardly any spices were used.

Make sure you pack some Winter clothing. It will drop to the 30s on the ship when at sea.

The scenery and things is absolutely amazing. We have an awesome time when we did that a couple of years ago.

We went on Princess and it was great.

It was actually quite warm when I went. I didn't even have to use my jacket for the trip. We went on princess as well. I'm wondering whether we just got a bum chef.

We went in August which was supposed to be the warm time. When we were on shore it was fine but at night when sailing between places it got damn cold.

This might have more to do with the cruise line than the passengers..which line was it?

Princess. I went on a cruise to the Caribbean with Princess previously and the food was freaking awesome.

What are the best cruise lines to go to Alaska?

Where can you get the best deals for 5-7 day cruises from Vancouver or Seattle?
