I like Tori too... they're pretty different though... Alanis is a lot more "accessible" than Tori (especially Tori's more recent stuff).

I would say that TA is more talented... maybe it's just that I'm a sucker for women who play piano though...

Alanis is on my list of favorite female artists. Just listened to the single. It's ok, but not great.

I just listened to a clip of every track on her new CD (thanks to CDNOW.com) and then downloaded the ones I thought were good:

Precious Illusions
So Unsexy
That Particular Time

Hmm... didn't know that, but I would be surprised if there weren't some additional context in that comment that was omitted.

Regardless, an artist's personal opinions on ANYTHING have zero to do with my enjoyment of their art... that goes for musicians, painters, sculpters, film directors, etc.

Downloaded Alanis' new album off IRC a week ago (advanced copy) and have it playing in my car.
My favorite tracks so far are

Flinch
That Particular Time
Uptopia
and Hands Clean

the other tracks didn't hit the spot with me, but I've been listening to those 4 for the last week

I think that new song's ok. I used to like her a lot, but all her songs are starting to sound the same to me.

You know, I do feel I should say, artists sell CD's to make money. If you'd write a very good novel, but everyone downloaded it for free rather than buying it and providing you with a good chunk of money, wouldn't you be a wee bit upset?

I do download MP3s. If I like what I hear, I buy the CD.
