Anyone know where I can find the 3 hour version of Dune for region 1 on DVD from 1984 ? About the only sites selling it are UK sites and they are all region 2. If all else fails I pick it up from the UK sites but I would love to get that version for region 1. Oh yeah which version do you like the most ?

1. ) Theatrical release ( 1984 ) David Lynch

2.) Alan Smithee version ( 1984 or so I think..correct me if am wrong. ) Was directed by both Alan Smithee, and David Lynch and is shown once a year on the Sci-Fi channel.

3.) KTVU version ( one that had both 1 and 2 versions put togetheir. Only sold in Japan on Laser Disc and is out of printing production )

4.) Sci-Fi mini-series version ( 2000 ) John Harrison

5.) Sci-Fi mini-series "Directors Cut" version ( 2000 ) John Harrison

Dude, you have no ideea what you're saying.

Let me clarify things for you.

"Alan Smithee" is a pseudonym, a fake name used by all the directors who don't want their name to appear in the credits, for one reason or another.

David Lynch directed Dune - released theatrically in 1984. A little later, a bunch of studio executives decided to add more scenes, in order to make the film easier to understand for a re-release. David Lynch asked for his name to be removed from the credits, since he hated that new, longer version. So the scenes were optically altered to replace "David Lynch" with "Alan Smithee"

You'll never find the KTVU version on DVD, but www.blackstar.co.uk has the "Alan Smithee" version on DVD, with the best possible transfer. Buy a hackable cheap player, like Apex, or use your computer. There's plenty of good movies out there that may never be released in R1.

Oh, and by the way, despite its shortcomings, the David Lynch movie was much better than the crappy "made for TV" miniseries, which pretended to be faithful to the book and wasn't.
