why can't They make a good Alan Moore-comic-based movie?

he's one of the best writers in comics (probably the best, although gaimen fans may disagree) and the just take all his stuff and crapify it for the screen!
why?!?!
i mean its already visual and people i know who would normally never pick up a comic think his stuff is on-par with many contemporary popular fiction authors.
its mind-boggiling.

as league of extrodinary gentelmen approaches, there become fewer and fewer alan moore works to turn into movies!

I believe Terry Gilliam optioned the Watchmen story a few years ago, but I don't think the production ever really got off the ground. That series would make a hell of a movie - hopefully someone else will pick it up.

Because he's a COMICS writer, the fact that he's good at it means he's using the reader's faculties as much as his own storytelling. That OFTEN doesn't translate, reagardless of the source.

There have been many crappy text to film conversions. This isn't the worst I'd guess.

That would absolutely rock provided Hollywood didn't fsck it up by casting Keanu or something.

Considering the density of ideals/prose and visual genius that is The Watchmen, I hope it never makes it to the big screen, unless they plan to make it a film with eleven sequels.

It could be done. Think Fincher cinematography + LOTR-type casting (ie- focus on actual acting ability and not Ahnuld-type box office draw power).
