I use Alamo everytime I go on vacation since they have cheap rates and I never had a problem with them.

I left a laptop in a National rental car last summer. The customer who rented that car after me found the laptop and gave it to National. I had already filed a lost&found claim, so National called me and I got it back.

National and Alamo are related in some manner. They share the same counters and car lots at airports.

Next time use hertz. A bit more expensive but goddamn they are fucking great.
Problem is that Hertz is off-airport at MCO. I'm always cutting it close and that extra bus ride doesn't work for me. Also--National is one of the few rental car chains that prohibit smoking in their cars. Doesn't always work, but I've rented some literal stinkers from Hertz.

Yea, except the company is legally liable for the actions of an employee conducted during the line of their duty - ie, taking something out of a rental car they were moving. Therefore, it is in the company's best interests to make sure their employees don't steal....

Obviously it isn't feasable to monitor every employee all the time, and maybe you shouldn't hold a grudge against a company for the actions of one rogue employee....but if this is a regular occurance? I'd say it's something they should monitor.

thanks for the input. The problems ALSO stems from shitty service when dropping off the car and shittier service AFTER you accidentally do leave items in the car.

also the person who rents the car should take a little time to make sure nothing is left in it.

personally i don't see why everyone is bitchign out the car company. it is teh OP's fault not alamo's.

Naturally. I'm obsessive about that, even after I've accounted for everything I still think I must have left something behind when I leave a hotel room, rental car, etc.

I was more responding to kranky's post about not holding a company at fault for a stealing employee.

Man, I'd be call Alamo, the Attorney General, the police, and anyone else I could since that mounts to theft. You noticed it that quickly and it magically disappeared. It's probably on ebay by now and they deserve to be sued. THey probably do that to tons of people.

Oh I'm sure of that too. At least the guy at the counter could have given me the forms etc to fill out for the lost and found. Just horrible taste in my mouth. They wont be getting my business anymore.

Lets be honest, filling out a thousand lost and forms will never get the backpack back.

I don't care... at least TALK TO ME and give me the fucking option.

Next time check your shit and make sure you have everything before you walk off.

If I leave shit behind in a car, airplane, train or whatnot, I don't expect it to be there when I come back. Hence why I perform my 3 pocket check before I leave anywhere.

Since you have a 4 year old kid I would believe that checking everywhere you leave would be a concept engrained in your being, but obviously hasn't.

While I agree that the theft of your kids gear is abhorrent, the fact that you can't even be bothered to panscan the car as you are leaving it, means that you are also quite responsible, and as a result, forfeit your right to be such a giant douche about this situation.
