Do some more research. We know exactly why the bill is so high and I have posted it in this thread. The county got fucked by the big banksters bribing politicians to enter into a deal that was horrible for the county but outfuckingstanding for the banksters. Several politicians went to jail, the banksters didn't.

He LIVES in the county the story is taking place in. HIS water bill is not 300 bucks, news reporter did not ask to see the water bill of the people in the story, hell even the lady getting interviews by her fence with the porta-potty says "sometimes my water bill is 1,2 3 hundred dollars"... she doesnt even know how much her own water bill is. so there is no proof that the water bill is actually $300 bucks. How much more research do you need?

that neighborhood in the story is really poor. something is up im thinking that the high water bill the lady is talking about are late fees and last months bill due to non payment. sorry but im having a hard time believing this story.

show me a 300 dollar water bill from one of those people for one month of service then ill believe it.

I see. So proof that illegal activity has taken place, proof that due to that illegal activity rates have risen by as much as 3-400%, proof that additional increases are coming due to that illegal activity, politicians found guilty in a court of law for illegal activity that has resulted in the countys water bill skyrocketing, all of that is irrelevant because you haven't seen an actual water bill that is exactly $300?

Who cares if its $300 or $150? An increase like that over such a short period of time due solely to a business bribing politicians should not be stood for. Somehow you don't seem to understand that and completely ignore the real issue here.

Back to OT.

The problem is they played finances with the funds available for the civil project and lost it when they crashed.

Blame Wall Street and the government officials that believed the "guaranteed deal" they were promised.

No one believed the "guaranteed deal", Wall street bribed the government officials. The only "guaranteed deal" was the bribe money paid by the banksters to the county politicians.

proof of illegal activity, yes i agree

The real issue is people talking about a huge ass water bill that nobody has seen.i have not seen any proof that water rates have gone up causing a 300 buck water bill have you?, if you have such proof post tit and ill drop it. until then this story is a lame attempt to cause race problems.

$300 seems too high to me.

But with a little checking around the rates in Jefferson County seem damned high to me. Here's what I found:

Sewer: $9.89 per 1,000 gals.
http://jeffconline.jccal.org/sewerservice/

Water: $2.61 per hundred cubic feet. (I believe that is less than a 1,000 gals) Plus a base charge of approx $20 (assuming most lines are 3/4")
http://www.birminghamwaterworks.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=109&Itemid=177

In my area the combined water/sewer rate $2.5 per 1,000 gals plus a base charge of $5.62.

Maybe someone from that county can confirm the info.

That makes no sense. The residents ARE the government. The residents ARE responsible for the governments bills. Who is the "government" going to get the money from to eat the costs if not from the governed?

I would bet that they are attempting to sue the banksters who are partially responsible to recoup some of the costs and maybe get a judge to throw out the entire deal. Not sure if the money has been spent or not but something has to be done.

I ment at a federal or state level. Not just the residents in that one city. Its not the residents of that particular citys fault that the goverment system the US has in effect is so full of corruption/easy to corrupt. You would think they would spread out that added cost as to not screw one city over since that city has no choice but to use a corrupt system of goverment.

No one believed the "guaranteed deal",

I really do not know.

Maybe it only took a bit of bribery to make them believe something that was being sold to everyone at the time (the junk bonds et all....)

(BTW, I am not completely disagreeing with you here, but I do not think it was a cut-and-dry "here's the money" and voila!)

Democrats are in charge of Alabama or Republicans? In most large cities it is all democrats in charge. If they just ganged together and all refused to pay their water bill, then they would be forced to lower it. If it was a green project the government would be bank-rolling it. They are probably also paying for a flood mitigation project. This is what happens when you connect the water supply system to the sewer system. The southern states all receivied millions of dollars after the hurricanes to rebuild. What did they do with that money?

They lined their pockets, that is what they did!

Hmm - This has made me look at my Bill. I live in Orange County, CA. My water/sewer bill is around $50-60 month. I pay 1.54 for 100 CF of water for the first 6 units and then 2.050 for the next 8 units. Beyond this I pay more. Water service charge is $9.60 and $15.25 for sewer. I am glad the Irvine Ranch Water District seems to be fairly well. I agree with other posters I would like to actually see evidence of a $300 water/sewer bill for 1-month.

I think it's important to recognize, however, that the county is going broke making the payments on the Warrants used to finance the project, so further increases are inevitable, barring intervention/ manna from heaven in the form of federal money...

I agree. I have been living here since 1993 and have seen the sewer rates rise dramatically because of the corruption and mishandling of this issue. And yes, they will continue to rise. My point has been that although sewer bills are higher than normal here I don't believe a $300 sewer bill is the norm for the average family. That's why I would like to see the proof and understand the actual circumstances.
