After reading up on the man, especially the Tawanda Brawley fiasco (made-up), and resulting countersuit (which he lost) I'm afraid I have less respect for him than aggressive drivers during rush hour traffic. I mean, the conspiracy theories he comes up with make the X-Files look like a film documentary by comparison.

Just want to know if anybody cares what he has to say.

The thing is...of all the Democratic candidates...actually scrap that off just about all politicians out there he is one of the most witty and entertaining to listen to. I guess that happens when you have been preaching since the age of 7.

well, he does entertain me because he seems so out of touch. hes alway claiming race is a factor if something doesnt go his way, which to me is hysterical because nothing ever seems to go his way, and apperently all the rest of the democratic candidates have an anti black agenda.

The real question is: Did you care? Obviously, since you read up on this man. No one made you

I have read up on him to, interesting fellow that likes to speak his mind.

IMO Sharpton knows he has absolutely no chance to be elected. I think he is simply doing what he does so that he has a platform to speak his mind about things he thinks are important. Is he prone to grandstanding and attention whoring? What politician isn't? I may not agree with many of the things he is saying but I respect his ability to make himself heard on a national level.

Carol Mosley Braun is worse still. Anyone else from Illinois knows this. At least Sharpton has a sense of humor about himself (well I hope that is what it is.)

anyone remember tawana brawley?

Short Bio

"...Sharpton's most controversial incident came in 1987 when Al Sharpton, C. Vernon Mason, and Alton Maddox acted as advisor for Tawana Brawley. Brawley was a black teenager from Wappingers Falls, New York who claimed that she was raped and sodomized for several days by six white police officer before being covered in excrement and placed in a trash bag. These claims were later proven to be completely untrue. Following the incident, although Brawley refused to speak to the media or authorities, Sharpton and the other advisors began to make wild claims. Sharpton said that to cooperate with the state Attorney General Robert Abrams, a Jew, would be "to sit down with Mr. Hitler". All three implied that Mario Cuomo was tied to organized crime. Sharpton has never recanted any of the allegations he made surrounding the incident and maintains that he has always believed Brawley.

In 1998 Sharpton was ordered to pay Steven Pagones $65,000 in damages for slander for explicitly implicating the young prosecutor in the rape of Tawana Brawley. Before the trial Sharpton had said, "We stated openly that Steven Pagones ... did it ... if we're lying, sue us"[1]. Sharpton refused to pay. In January 2001 after Pagones had collected only $15,000 from Sharpton's garnished salary, a group of wealthy African Americans stepped in to pay..."
