from USA Today (7/11/2003):
"The FBI alerted law enforcement agencies last month that an al-Qaeda terrorist now in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States."

From NBC News (10/27/2003):
"Authorities announced they were seeking two men for investigation of arson and possibly murder in connection with the fire, which ravaged foothill neighborhoods of San Bernardino and threatened mountain homes. One man was seen Saturday morning throwing something into roadside brush that caught fire, then he and a companion fled in a van, officials said. "

Bush will do anything to qwell media reports of this. The country would go into a fear frenzy if reports that Al-Quaeda did this got out.

it's still arguable about the northeast power outage -- what the REAL cause of that was.

Then again, it WOULD help the economy -- people would RUSH to their local HOME DEPOTS, that's for sure!

LOL

This is the kind of stuff stupid people find. They always have to find someone to blame for everything (anyone but ourselves, right?)

As someone who lives in SoCal, we have fires every year. Yes these are damaging more homes then usual, but there are less then there were a few years ago.

Al Queda? I thought it was the Enviro terrorists that burned down forests to "protect" them.

Well... whomever started these danged fires needs being found. First, they need cleaning up all the ashes around here. This is worse than the '70 'Laguna' fire for ash.

But! The thing that bugs me is: There are military assets available but we have yet to make the call for them... we need using up all the civilian assets (assuming we're not) 'they' say.. This is nutty!

I don't think or even see why anyone would think Al Qeada did this.. The fire movement into the residential areas had to jump major interstate highways and that is almost impossible... it did it but that would not be a planned event.

They should send the national guard out to help evacuate and cleanup.

Too bad it will take them a month to get there from Iraq.

Like I said in the other thread, maybe ELF had something to do with this. They have been quite fond of burning down things lately.

Environmentalists support forest fires. They are natural and beneficial to the local ecosystem.

Maybe Al Qaeda has a meteorologist and a climatologist on the payroll. I heard the authorities were looking for two white men in a white truck . . . no kidding . . . on NPR this morning. I hear OJ wants to ask them some questions as well.
