A terror group linked to al Qaeda has claimed it carried out a series of terror attacks on London that have left a number of people dead and hundreds injured.

Two London hospital have reported a total of 185 wounded after a series of blasts hit locations across the city on buses and Tube stations.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there was evidence of explosives at at least one of the six sites.

Scotland Yard has denied reports they were warned of an attack by Israel minutes before the blasts.

Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 90 people injured in the explosion at Aldgate Station.

Prime Minister Tony Blair is returning to London from the G8 Summit in Scotland.

He said: "It's particularly barbaric that these attacks are designed to coincide with the G8 summit.

"It's important however that those engaged in terrorism realise that our determination to defend our values and way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people."

Witness, Angie, saw the bus explode in Russell Square. She said: "There were a whole lot of people around the bus. Next thing I was on the floor and there were a lot of people on me.

"I thought I was going to be crushed. The bus was ripped out at the back. It must have been a bomb."

The entire Tube network has been shut down following the blasts at Edgware Road, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate, Moorgate and Leicester Square.

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from King's Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umbrellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around King's Cross covered in soot.

Uh oh.

Can you imagine what the scene would be like if it happened here in the States?

It would have been absolute chaos and pandemonium.

Unfortunately, it probably will happen here one day. We are the ones they want to hurt the most. The scene is the same no matter where it happens.

The UK and US have been trying to kick their ass for a few years now. I doubt this will change anything as far as that's concerned.

That's why the do it, they want to fuel the "crusades" so it will be islam vs. the great Satan.

And another problem, you need to find them before you can "kick their ass".

Am I the only one that thinks this war on terror is almost impossible to win?

Unfortunately, no.

This is the sad truth.

I think you're missing his point.

What should be obvious to everyone in the world is that we are allowing ourselves to be terrorized by an EXTREME minority. We outnumber them by thousands to one, essentially infinite resources, yet some among us still want to hide behind closed doors.

It reminds me a lot of gang problems in cities, just on a much more ridiculous scale. This is the entire freaking world vs a few idiots, not just a city PD.

Yes, it's going to take a while to do it right. Yes, we're going to have casualties. We cannot allow ourselves to be bullied by the criminal minority.

...but I think that most rational people realize that it has to be fought. Islamic extremists are not going to go away, and they are not going to cease and desist in their activities until either they are destroyed, or they destroy civilization as we know it.

it IS impossible to win. how can we defeat an idea? we can defeat the people harboring that idea, but that idea is easily transferred onto the next generation...

edit: not to say we shouldnt continue to fight it. it will be a constant fight since we know they wont give up. and if we do, they win

Having lived and worked in London during the IRA's long campaign against the mainland I have much personal experience of terrorism. Is does not and will not change my life and the way I live it. The harsh reality is, however, that fighting an enemy without a face, a hidden group or a sercret society, is next to impossible to hit hard.

Depends on where in the states you're talking about. Some places, you might likely see people taking out the train windows with a couple shots from their 9mm's!!
