Al Qaeda deal for nerve gas

The Bush administration has received a credible report that Islamic extremists affiliated with al Qaeda took possession of a chemical weapon in Iraq last month or late in October, according to two officials with firsthand knowledge of the report and its source. They said government analysts suspect that the transaction involved the nerve agent VX and that a courier managed to smuggle it overland through Turkey.

ROTFL! 🙂

I heard that desribed by someone one as "turning that sand pit into a glass floored, self-lighting parking lot"

LOL!

Like drilling though radioactive glass is going to stop the US from getting cheap oil.

Actually the most that will happen to Iraq is that the govt. will be removed, some Iraqi soldiers will be killed, and they'll be replaced with newly elected Iraqi's who will turn a blind eye to our pipeline construction in their country. So much for your glass parking lot theory.

For what it is worth, rumor has it that the Russians are planning on killing Saddam if they have to so they can secure the 4 billion dollars that Saddam owes them *shrug who knows.

Most likely yes. I just say that because it has become my "stupid montra that makes no sense". I just say anything in these war threads about my gas being cheaper, and beople actually think I care 🙂

Actually, the only way your scenario would come to fruition would be Saddam (and his inner circle) willingly leave or the vast majority of his most loyal troops (along with the civilian population which has been armed) refuse to resist an invasion force. Neither case is likely b/c the former means Saddam would submit to war crimes tribunal (not to mention relinquish power) while the latter implies a significant number of people (even when their leaders are wrong) will not defend their nation's sovereignty. A lot of innocent people are going to die.

We essentially control the North and South already. The war plan is apparently focused on likely urban conflict in which our adversary has admitted that they will hide amongst the people and that the civilian population has been armed. Furthermore, unless we pay big money to Turkey not only will they not "help" but they will invade Northern Iraq to stabilize Kurdish-dominated regions. At which point the Kurds and the two main opposition parties will begin to duke it out over who will rule Iraq. Under such conditions the "newly elected" will not take place for years during which time the benevolent US government will administer Iraqi oil resources with the assistance of tens of thousands US troops to "stabilize the country".

PS There's no need for pipeline construction in Iraq. Their infrastructure is sufficient to deliver significantly more crude than current levels plus we can always have the Kuwaitis drill more of their diagonal wells across the border.
