The baseball writers will overlook Ortiz's season unfortunately, and Gayrod will win the MVP. I believe Ortiz should win it, but I don't believe it'll happen.

Too many to count off-hand. :)

It's rediculous how clutch he is. It's to the point where it's expected he'll hit a 9th inning homerun to win a game. It's really too bad the uppity writers will discount what he did just because he's a DH.

Big Pappy, David Ortiz. Big hits all year long.

NL = Andruw Jones, in the post steroids era of baseball we finally get to see the best player in baseball shine.

In addition to A-Rod and Ortiz, I think you also have to look at Teixeira from Texas. 106 R, 41 HR, 132 RBI, .295 AVG, .373 OBP, .940 OPS AND he gets the job done on the defensive side of the diamond with his .999 fielding percentage.

Who's a more valuable player to their team? Arod or Ortiz?

That should be a pretty easy answer.

If Ortiz didn't have half of the clutch hits he did, the Sox wouldn't even be in contention right now.

Let's see him catch a line drive. Arod is playing a gold glove 3rd base.

Ortiz played some nifty first in the WS last year. He had that play where he threw out Suppan at third when he strayed to far. He is by no means a gold glover, but he isn't horrible. The reason he is better off not playing the field is because his knees probably can't take playing first for a full season.

And the Yankees wouldn't be where they are right now without Arod either. Just because there are a few players onthe Yankees contributing, that should not take away from Arod's stellar year with the bat AND with the glove.

Actually Ortiz is not a good defensive 1st baseman. Sure, he's had his moments, but he has almost no range and is not known as a decent 1st baseman. Regardless, he did not play the field this year (or barely played), so the point is moot.

Its Most Valuable player, not Best Overall player, so what if he is only DH, even in that capacity he is still the most valueable player on their team and the reason where they are, what position he plays shouldnt matter when deciding the MVP.

Yankees still have a lot of solid talent around Arod (more so than Boston) who together have rallied the Yanks

Anyone know when the vote? I know it is before the playoffs, but when exactly? I can see it really coming down to which team wins in the last series that last weekend.

In that case maybe Mike Sweeny should be the MVP? Sure his stats suck but the rest of the teams stats suck worse and he is certainly the most valuable player on the Royals!

The only problem with my argument is that AL pitchers have won the MVP in the past and they don't hit, so there goes my argument out the window. :(

If Sweeny had single handedly carried the Royals to a playoff birth, then he probably would and should get it.

It's called MVP, but generally (and historically) regarded best overall player.
Definitely a toss-up between Ortiz and A-Rod.

I think Ortiz has been hotter but A-Rod plays an above average 3rd base.

TP, you should know better then anyone that the Yankees got to and won so many World Series as of late WITHOUT A-Rod.. the Sox finally won theirs and are in the hunt right now simply because of Ortiz, before him they never got anywhere for years, and years. They're both on a team full of talent but Ortiz is the only one who put his team over the top right now. Remember, it's not an award for best offense, best defense, or a good mix of both.. it's who is the more valuable player to his team, and you can't tell me Ortiz isn't as valuable as A-Rod, please dude, you're wiser then that right?
