Al-Jazeera Iraq War Stream

All they're doing now is just gabbing. no images. Of course it's not like seeing people blown apart is anything new for me. I've seen too much of it for one lifetime. 🙁

Nice find! I doubt there is any "legit" way for North Americans to actually get this channel, even if we wanted to.

Not part of DISH Network's mideast channels?

Cool find, though!

Heh...they show the DJIA up in their ticker! 🙂

There was an article in The globe and Mail a few days ago about Al Jazeera. They mentioned that no one in north america can watch it legally (yet), but that many people are watching it by illegal means. Also mentioned that while CNN has a viewership of 1million, aljazeera has 55 million

Got any good streams like that from U.S. news stations? CNN charges and MSNBC isn't always on there.

CNN charges for their stream--not that you'd see anything much different than what's on television. Also, NPR is a good source of news: http://www.npr.org

And you don't think the numbers are a little off?

Washington Post
No images there, thankfully...don't really need to saw images of what's discussed in the article.

But, from the description of one ("back of its head blown off" - referring to a child) it sounds like an exit wound maybe? Wouldn't put it past the retreating Iraqi troops to have massacred the civilians to blame it on the coalition forces.

It's probably true. Considering the numbers of potential viewers far exceed the U.S. population. And, it's the only source of objective material available to most in the mideast.

No, actually the whole title of the column was "CNN dreams of viewer base like Al-Jazeera's"

Read it for youself:

The network was launched in 1996, initially financed by a grant of $150-million (U.S.) from the Emir of Qatar, who deposed his father a year earlier and is viewed as progressive. It broadcasts 24 hours a day to an audience that reaches 55 million. Comparatively, cable news channels in the United States draw about one million viewers.
Outside the Middle East, it is watched by as many as 10 million. It has roughly 200,000 viewers in North America. The network employs 620 at its Doha headquarters and posts reporters at 38 locations worldwide.

It was from the bombing.

And yeah, it is a damn good quality feed.

Al Jazeera is part of the DISH Network Arabic Language Elite Package.

The stream isn't working on my dial-up connection 🙁

The washington post story quoting al-jazeera sources said that it was from the bombing. The military refuses to comment since it's an "ongoing campaign". I'm pretty sure the witnesses who saw the bombing and the results have no reason to lie.

I know. I was just saying that none of us, really, know sh!t. We only know what the media spoon feeds us, lol.

I find it ironic (after watching the stream and talking to a friend in Belgium), that there is virtually no coverage of the protests going on in america. All they show is the rest of the world protesting.

that channel should be call Over Dramatic Reality TV. Watching that feed you'd think we were nuking Baghdad..

The numbers are totally flawed. CNN has an audience of way more than 1 million. Not to mention CNN International which is seen all over the world, plus CNN Airport Network. CNN has a much greater international presence than Al Jazeera, plus it broadcasts in the de facto global language of the world. I would bet anything CNN has many more viewers than Al Jazeera.
