Al Gore nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Congratulations to Al Gore. He stood up an told us an Inconvenient Truth, just like when he ran for President he told us not what we wanted to hear but the real deal.
He lost the Presidency because he wanted to put away money to pay for the boomers retirement and the public bought the Bush "What, me worry" lunacy of borrowing trillions for a tax cut.
Al Gore is as courageous a politician as we have EVER had.

and how much attention he has brought to the cause, not withstanding all that extra carbon HIS lifestyle adds to it compared to an average person. One standard for his class and one HIGHER MUCH MORE STRICT standard for the average Joe.

Actually, does anyone take this bunch seriously anymore?

Actually thank god very few American sheeple are taking your kind seriously anymore.

Actually if I remember correctly, Al Gore didn't tell us much of anything during the 2000 election, which is why he lost. The Al Gore of 2000 didn't have much of a compelling agenda or message for the American people. Hindsight is 20/20 with Bush as a candidate, but in 2000, he was the more dynamic of the two in communicating a vision for America...even if that vision was a smoke and mirrors bag of tricks.

I think Gore's message through An Inconvient Truth is an important one, and his actions have raised public awareness of the problem. That in and of itself is a noble cause. However, Gore offers no solutions, just criticisms of the status quo.

As many have pointed out, his lifestyle and personal choices certainly don't lead by example in terms of the sacrifices ALL Americans would have to make to provide for an immediate solution to global warming.

Easy to know and understand the problem...harder to fix the problem. But awareness is the first step, so even I have to respect Gore for that.

Oh, and this thread needs more Manbearpig.

I find your comment deliciously ironic, Dave

lol. what a joke. Ever since those idiots gave Arafat a NPP, I've lost faith in their ability to choose a deserving recipient.

Gore is a visionary. He was right on the Internet, and funding its development. When he is proven right about global warming, Republicans will mock him for inventing it too.

I did not know of that one. Where's Osama's NPP?

Yes, and you should be nominated for your endless support of war and neocons ..

The link is down.
However, being NOMINATED is NOT the same as having WON.
Every year many (probably cloe to a a hundred) candidates are nominated by various people (former winners etc). It is then up the the commitee to choose the winner.

Former nominees include Fidel Castro. Bono&Bob Geldoff (the two latter might actually deserve one and have been nominated several times), David Kelly (the britsh weapons inspector who commited suicide) and Adolf Hitler.

As I pointed out above: "They" in this case is NOT only the Nobel comittee.
Qualified nominators

Note that the list includes "Members of national assemblies and governments of states".
Somehow I suspect the nomination for Bush&Blair in 2004 came from a member of the US congress....

Wow.. first Al Gore invents the internet, and now he saves the earth. See, politicians can make a difference.

He got to debut as a star in a big screen flick, made money and spread a huge and well needed message to millions.

He is the man from that point of view.

You have to LOVE this.
Landmark Legal Foundation today nominated nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his "nearly two decades of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin. These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout the world," said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.
Kind of takes the shine of Gore being nominated huh?

Bringing awareness to a real issue is more important than his own-one person's lifestyle. If you can't see that, I pity you. Sure, it'd be nice if he did his part.. but the message is more important.

You're quite right, that IS junk science.

It's a very truthy article though.

LOTS of people are nominated for Nobel prizes, being nominated doesn't mean anything. For example Helen Caldicott who is a anti-nuclear writter who is pretty notorius for posting half-truths and complete fabrications is nominated every year. All you need is a previous nobel winner to nominated you, and since most are probably well past their prime now (read: senile) its not all that hard to get their support.

why are people complaining about Al Gore's so-called lifestyle? doesn't he make a point of living a carbon neutral lifestyle?

too much Star Trek huh...

I hope he wins.

I do not understand all the criticism posted in this thread but Gore has made an effort to bring attention to this issue. Which is more than I have done.
