Former vice president and 2000 presidential candidate Al Gore on Thursday turned what was supposed to be a rally for Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend -- now the Democratic candidate for governor -- into a group therapy session exploring simmering resentment over the Florida recount.
...

It all started with a greeting from Maryland Democratic Congressman Steny Hoyer, who said, "Welcome, Mr. President," referring to Gore.

Then Gore introduced himself.

"I'm Al Gore," he said. "I used to be the next president of the United States."

Then came a tongue-in-cheek review of Maryland election law by Gore, which received roaring applause.

"In the state of Maryland, does the candidate for governor who gets the most votes actually win the election? Yes? Okay."

...

"This is just a personal thing with me, but I kind of think when somebody does an A-plus job in the number two job, they ought just kind of you know, I think they ought to go on to the number one job," he said. "That's just me, though."

Sheesh, get over yourself .

Sadly gore really is a freaking loser. I'm not trying to mean that Bush is the best thing since sliced bread. This has nothing to do with bush - but gore really is a lame goof.

there's a reason I didn't vote in the 2000 election...I didn't want either of those fools in office.

He's a super-nice guy though. I met him in '91 when he came to my hometown... I guess I truly respect anyone who has noble reason to stand up and try to lead this country. I often wonder what kind of person would WANT that kind of responsibility.

good intentions aren't everything. But I'll admit that he got screwed by Clinton and his whores. Even the greatest leader in the world would have trouble getting elected after that.

At least he can laugh about it.

I don't dislike Al Gore as a person although I do dislike nearly every politician, it the politics they have that I hate.

Just be glad he is Al Gore and not a 'slick' a liar as Clinton was or he would be the Pres!

Indeed. Early in Clinton's first term (if I'm remembering correctly), the Washington Post ran a front page article on how much Gore's association with Clinton would tarnish his own presidential bid. Several prominent Dems stated privately that Gore, an up-and-coming star in the party, was being 'wasted' on Clinton and might not recover. Turns out they were right. If Gore were No. 2 to most any other Dem, he would have won with such a huge margin in 00', the Florida mess wouldn't have been an issue.

I'm pretty sure he was joking when he said that. I saw Gore(on CSPAN) about a month ago speaking to some California orgs thingamajig and after getting a chuckle(SNL has him pegged perfectly) I was pleasantly surprised how humourous Gore was. He had made a similar joke there and it had me ROFLMAO. Most of the time he's painful to watch and listen to, but he does speak inteligently, precisely, and can be hella funny to boot.

I remember everyone liked him when he was campaigning with Clinton in '92. I remember when he talked at my Junior high everyone thought he was great.

Hu? You're talking about the same guy as the rest of us, right? The guy who's big plan for getting us out of a depression was to raise taxes? The guy who cares more about the environment than his own citizens? The overall quality of presidential candidates lately has been so low that people think that's just the way it is (bush too). Let me tell you something, these people would be lucky to have a job if they weren't born millionaires.
