I'm sure the Republican controlled FCC will do everything they can think of to shut this down before it ever gets a chance to go On Air:

5-4-2004 Former Vice President Gore to Buy NewsWorld Cable

NEW ORLEANS - Former U.S. vice president Al Gore plans to announce on Tuesday that he has acquired cable television channel NewsWorld International from Vivendi Universal to launch a new liberal network, a source familiar with the matter said.

NewsWorld International currently airs international news broadcasts. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Gore said the network will be "an independent voice in this industry" with a primary target audience of people between 18 and 34 "who want to learn about the world in a voice they recognize and a view they recognize as their own."

"This is not going to be a liberal network, a Democratic network or a political network," Gore said at a news conference.

The programming will continue to be provided by Canadian Broadcasting Corp., officials said.

I don't see what the big deal is. There is already a huge liberal slant in the media. If people want to watch it, then let them. This is a free country, isn't it?

I thought about that right away. Obviously he has a lot of backing for this venture.

He has been "touring" the University system with his speeches. Apparently the speeches were quite a "pitch" too.

Huh. I suppose this POV arose when the Republican leadership wrapped their uber-right agenda in the flag, kinda like the Nazis claimed anybody who disagreed with them was Anti-German. Cover a pile of horse manure with old glory, and some folks will still salute, even though it's just a pile of manure. Perhaps they think the flag will transfer some otherwise missing quality when applied in this fashion...

All that's necessary to find the deception in the whole liberal media smear is to take a look at who owns the media, and ask yourself if they'll allow it to operate completely against their own interests. I don't think so.

The simple fact that the radio waves are covered with right wing trash talking jive 24/7/365 should indicate something... And the obvious fact that, until just recently, the media has been Dubya's lapdog ever since 9/11.... Yip! Grrr!

Well, since it is aimed at younger audiences, it will probably have shows similar to Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show.

It should be interesting to see if it ever makes any money.

I'd say it would be interesting to see how long it stays on the air, but that would be somewhat misleading. I'm sure Gore can find some more people to toss money into the venture, at least for a while to keep it going.
