Must have been written by someone else, no way that idiot could come up with a coherent thought, much less be correct about a position.

Al Franken says a lot of intelligent things. You must not pay much attention to the man.

^^ This. If Al Franken was a republican the very same right wingers on this forum would be declaring him a genius.

A good password should include two things - something you have and something you know.

I think Apple could give us a feature that incorporates both where our fingerprint would be necessary to get to the password screen.

Maybe he's trying to help his noble friends spy on us. This might present a small delay in the NSA doing what it wants.

He does bring up a couple of good points...if the finger print can be visually reconstructed out of the data stored in the phone, that could lead to some bad things potentially. And, also, if the finger print is part of the customer record, that could be seriously bad for lots of reasons.

All in all, I don't like the idea.

Franken graduated cum laude from Harvard. And, no, he wasn't a child of privilege. He made it on his own.

Franken's always struck me as a highly intelligent, thoughtful guy who makes lots of good points. The fact that you and Monovillage think he's an idiot just shows what utter morons you two are.

Regardless of Al Franken's intelligence or lack of it, he's got a good point that any security professional hasn't debated themselves. The problems of biometric authentication are well documented. This is really the first device to make widespread use of it that's going to garner this much attention from the community to include those wishing to exploit it. The hack is well known and very effective. We leave our fingerprints everywhere and finger prints aren't protected from police seizure. This in essence gives the police the password to your device. These are all excellent and important points that need to be addressed by not only manufacturers but also by the law. Perhaps Al needs to start introducing some bills protecting passwords and biometric data from police exploitation. The courts sure as hell aren't helping at this point.

This. He is a moron and a progressive idiot. This guy shouldn't have been elected as a senator.

Why don't you give us specific examples of how he's a moron? And why don't you define for us the term "progressive idiot" and provide us examples of statements Franken has made that are progressive and idiotic? My guess is that you wrote your post without knowing anything specific about Franken's positions. All you know is that he's a Democrat, and that's good enough for you to call him a moron and an idiot.

In fact, morons are people who engage in empty name-calling without providing any evidence to support their insults. For example, someone like you.

Passwords are just as easily cracked and frankly assuming they are secure is a false sense of security. If someone wants to crack a password they will do it, e.g. NSA. Nothing is really "Safe".

Edit: I get what he is saying in that fingerprints are probably no safer, if not less safe than passwords which is a why a combination of the two would be better in the end but even that has its limits in terms of offering absolute air tight 100% security.

I never thought too much of him as a comic, but after watching him grill some people on panels and smack down down pundits on shows I think he's anything but dim. GOP and it's echo chamber has it in for him because he enjoys delivering a little mockery when confronting them on issues.

Regardless, I don't think people who vote for the party of George Bush, Sarah Palin and it's anti-science attitude in general have much standing to criticize the intelligence of anyone.
Stop nominating morons and ideologues, then we can talk.

Don't get too high on his under-privilege. The guy went to The Blake School. One of, if not the premiere private schools in the state and country. Also one of the most costly.

This is a good point; maybe the true way to fight the Republican neo-conservatives is to confront them using comedy and point out how ridiculous they look when they flip flop on issues. Look how successful the Daily Show and Colbert Report are; they point out the hypocrisy from either party when they say or do something stupid but can claim exemption from news regulations since they are comedy shows.

John Stewart for president 2020!

Franken graduated cum laude from Harvard.

That doesn't mean much. GWB graduated from Harvard and from Yale. obummer graduated from harvard. Clearly, being an idiot and getting a degree from those schools are not mutually exclusive.

And, no, he wasn't a child of privilege. He made it on his own.
Yeah, no privilege at all, just attending one of the most expensive and exclusive private schools available. I'm sure every kid has that option :whiste:

Franken's always struck me as a highly intelligent, thoughtful guy who makes lots of good points.
He's a blowhard elitist liberal who thinks he's hilarious.
