Yes, that's an even better idea, read the manga it better explains the story than the movie does

Go buy the collected manga that Dark Horse put out last year. It's much better. There are 6 collected editions.

and IIRC, they changed the story for the movie. When I first saw the movie (after reading the Manga), I was like, "WTF?"

There is a live action Akira in the works, but it will probably be dropped because Americans are too stupid to "get it". Could be cool though.
