AK31A supports athlon XP's thermal diode?

Could it be? Anyone out there that has an ak31a, download MBprobe, and set you CPU Sensor to Asus CUSL2 (the mobo that supports onboard diode). Check it out, could that be the real temp of the processor? Mine's hovering around 47-48 with an xp 1700+ @ 1531, running prime95.. motherboard monitor is only reporting temps of 31-32 degress.. this is amazing.

no, it doesn't.... the winbond chip that the AK31A and other kt266a mb's use is not capable of reading the internal diode of the athlon xp.

By setting it to the Asus CUSL2 reading, you're making MBprobe read a phantom chip... there's no asus sensor chip (which is what hte cusl2 uses) on the ak31. Just because you set it to a motherboard with diode support doesn't mean you automatically get it with a different mb.

Can you configure MBM to teh same settings? MBProbe is not really "user-configurable" enough to set this kind of thing...

on MBM, you wont' be able to choose an Asus CUSL2 connector because the chip associated with that board isn't available on hte AK31A...

Once again, there is no internal diode support with the ak31... good try, but no, even anand has stated this fact, as well as other reviews.

Go get SpeedFan and tell us what sensors are on your board. For example, here's what speedfan detects for my a7v (you'll probably be able to figure out what I have on the SMBus header):

DLPORTIO.DLL properly activated
Linked ISA BUS at $0290
Linked VIA VT82C686 SMBUS at $E800
Scanning ISA BUS at $0290...
INFO: ISA seems to be unused
Scanning SMBus at $E800...
WARNING : VIA686 sensors are disabled
Asus AS99127F(31) (ID=$31) found on SMBus at $2D
LM75 found on SMBus at $48
LM75 found on SMBus at $49
MAX6657 (PLEASE REPORT) found on SMBus at $4C
Found IBM-DTLA-307045 (45.0GB)
End of detection

Thermite88,

No. From what i've heard from various sources in the mb industry is this: The current generation of winbond sensor chips, including those onboard the majority of kt266a boards, is incapable of reading the athlonXp/MP internal diode properly.

I do know that Epox tried to get diode support working for the 8kha+. That is one reason why they have a winbond sensor chip on the MB. but other problems prevented the support. There is currently one temp sensor chip that can read the diode: The Max 6657 chip used in the AMD temperature measurement PDF. Rack is currently attempting to build his own internal diode reader :).... I'll try of find his links at Hardocp.

BTW, I think I figured out why MBprobe allows you to select the CUSL2 reading. with MBprobe, you can pick any sensor you want....

I can pick the cusl2 sensor, and the temperature is merely a compensated reading of my regular CPU temp. IT shows the exact same temp movement (a diode would show more) as my socket-thermistor. note that I can pick hte asus sensor despite the fact that I don't have the asus AS99127F chip either.
