Waited until I got mine to post, but in my opinion it's a hot deal - particularly for the minidisc user. Here's the specs from the site:

60-Watts Per Channel. Digital Signal Processor. Super T-Bass For Extra Bass. Subwoofer Output. 5-Minidisc Carousel Player/Recorder. Optical Digital Input and Output. 3-Disc CD Changer w/Random/Repeat Play Modes. Digital AM/FM Stereo Tuner With 36-Station Presets And Sleep/Wake-Up Timers. Magnetically Shielded 3-Way Bass-Reflex Speakers And Full-Function Remote Control. BBE System Imaging Enhancement, and 7-Band Spectrum Analyzer.

For me the best part's the 3 CD to 3 MD recording with one button feature, saves me time. Also, you can record from the radio. Another feature - NOT that I intend to use it, is it also has a kareoke function and you can record yourself...ewwwwwww. Hmm...anything else..yup, can hookup surround speakers and a subwoofer to it. Also, with optical IN it should be able to record from DVD player, TV, satellite receiver, etc...not sure yet. Anyway, got mine today, and it's in great shape - looks new. The downside is it only has a thirty day warranty since it's refurbished.

Be aware, this is a technojunkie toy - pretty darn complicated to use. I originally picked it up for one of the kids, but this isn't for the "manual, we don't need no stinkin' manual" people....it's gonna take some reading.

Price: $160, mine came to $180 shipped.

Location: Refurbishedstore.com

Go to "Audio Music" then scroll to the bottom left of the page. No pic, but it's a nice-looking stereo.

Link to review (keep in mind what HE paid for it, and what it'll do for this price):

Actually that stereo sold for considerably more - almost $600 - two years ago when it first came out (read the review link)... So the price listed is realistic. Point really is I couldn't FIND one anywhere, this was the only one for sale online other than some odd importer and it was in the $350 range. I've had no luck locally finding ANY stereo that'll play/record MDs so thought for other people living in a techno-challenged zone it'd be a good deal. If you have a better deal on a shelf stereo system with optical in/out and minidisc play/record please feel free to post it, beat mania. I'd've considered a different model IF I could've found one.

EDIT: Helpme, my shipping costs came to $20 even. BIG darn box and heavy. My UPS guy hates me. Banshee, if someone gets a grin from something it's a deal, so the post wasn't a total loss. :)

cool, so it is a big unit?

Also, I just read that the digital output does not work with md's? only when you play cd's does it do digital output..... true/false? Or have you not had a chance to try it?

I have an MDS-JE630, that I bought new for more than this... and that's only a deck, but atrac type-r and keyboard in :)

However this is very cool because it has a good set of speakers, as well as 5 md changer and cd changer.

Have you been able to find any other reviews or can you give a basic opinion of what you think (even thought you've not had it very long).

Thanks!

Helpme, if you buy one and hate it don't beat me, but I think for the price it's great. As far as optical out w/MD nope! Only from CD...interesting question. Wouldn't've thought to ask. :) That's the only review I found for it, but if you have any luck finding others please let me know. As for the size, it's not huge. It's 10 1/4" x 13 1/8" x 13 1/8" for the main unit and the speakers are 9 3/8" x 13 3/8" x 10 1/4" each. (That's given width x heighth x depth.) It weighs about 35 lbs total.

I'm sorry Raj, I was just joking - no harm, no foul. :) Besides, it let me get in my sexist remark for the day..hehe. Seriously, you're right, I should've been clearer on where to locate it. Too early in the morning for thinking on my part!

These prices are as inconsistant as Amazon :D. Cliking on one link for an Awia stereo that says it's $159, results in a page that says it's $149. And the MD player is up to $172 now. Mabe Yahoo stores have a price jumping feature when one item gets popular....thats an interesting idea...maybe we should build that into our shopping cart system at work :D

I just got the unit, It's pretty cool, though mine has some cosmetic damage. The sound from it is great, though the controls do leave much to be desired.

Link to now $149 stereo still in stock

Okay, I just broke down and bought ANOTHER one, 'cause this is an incredible-sounding stereo for the money. :) Again, would make a fantastic gift for someone with a minidisc player, or team with a cheap player for an even nicer one!

Helpme, glad you like it!! I was SO impressed and none of my friends are techie toy people - I felt bad I couldn't get even ONE of 'em to get one so we could gleefully compare notes. Sigh.

:: grinning evilly and pointing out alllllllllllllll the really cool stuff about the Aiwa...muahahhaahhahaha ::

"Already have the JVC..."

ROFL Since WHEN did we Hot Dealers let the minor detail that we already HAVE one of whatever it is stop us? Heck, or already have three or four of 'em??? ;)

I now have TWO and am trying to lure someone else into getting 'em all so I don't run back and get the rest just 'cause they're a good deal...LOL.

The one good thing about the Hot Deals forum is that it's taught me that the "Hoard 'em 'cause they're on sale" principle is NOT just a woman thing. :p I used to think it was some weird genetic or hormonal thing that made me do it - NOW I know it's just 'cause I'm an addict like the rest of you. :D

It's a very nice unit, and handles the 5 mds, 3cds as well as radio and digital/analog inputs very well! The sound from it is great!

Pros:
1)Great sound! 3 levels of bass boost and treble boost
2)easy cd->md recording
3)digital out from cd
4)nice display (spect analyz)
5)digital AND analog inputs
6)TWO mic inputs (unexpected)
7)120W RMS
8)FM tuner goes up in .05 mhz increments

only gripes:

1)they lowered the price :(
2)When using random play, it won't shuffle from one disc to another until it's finished with one disc.

Helpme, weren't you surprised when you first turned it on? :D These must have incredible tuners - I get better radio reception than I thought was possible. Glad it worked out so well for you. Yeah, the shuffle thing on the MDs is annoying, but not for the price we paid the first time even. :) Sure saves wear and tear and all the time I used to spend recording directly to my player!
