AIW8500DV: how to encode DV to mpeg2?

Just get my Radeon 8500DV, it seems not possible
to encode a DV video capture into MPEG2 in real time.
With the recent driver found from ati website, the
digital VCR function only allows encode mpg2 when the
video feeds in from composite/S-video input, not DV
(1394 input).

Anyone can help me figure out how to use the hardware
mpeg2 encoder built in radeon 8500DV with non-ATI
application? or is this even possible?
